Well said.
Do we have some LEO FReepers who might care to comment on this situation, and on the general disrespect for cops that seems to come through?
I hadn’t kept up on this - wow, it was an op.
And us silly conservatives worry about the “politics” of the 2A.
While the real “people in charge” are planning and executing ops to test city-wide lockdowns.
I guess if I had at least half the CIA leadership in my back pocket I could possibly attempt to thwart the effort to disarm Americans.
This is why the Ford Foundation, etc., makes sure that Maoist history (i.e., disarm before crackdown) is never mentioned in government schools. Oh, not just in America, but worldwide.
Oh, that’s crazy conspiracy theory, Pieter, you freeking wacko.

Oh, look, they’ll spot me a cool $190,000 to work on one of those projects...
But... (drooling)... duh..... what’s the “foundation system”..... that’s a conspiracy theory....

Sorry for the sarcrant RummyChick... I just got so happy when you actually mentioned the CIA in connection with this story I got carried away.
The Coast Guard could not be reached for comment ...
You are imagining disrespect. The only thing i disrespect here is the repeated low quality of the investigative work at every stage of this process, (FBI, INS, Boston PD) and i absolutely disrespect the spray and pray technique.
The ineffectiveness of it is clearly demonstrated in it’s lack of results. This is true in spades after the second “shootout” where the perp was -actually unarmed-. Several hundred rounds fired at close range, in two encounters. And they could not connect with the bad guys.
This happens with alarming regularity on the coasts. NYC has its shootouts that can only be described as amazing. (and not in the good way) The LAPD just did it with those hapless paper ladies. Thankfully their shooting was just as poor.
Review the Texas shootout with the Colorado prison warden killer last month. It ended right there. Review the lengthy record of fine marksmanship on violent felons out in Albuquerque.
Out west, front sights are found to be quite useful gadgets.
And i’m very glad that young cop wounded by friendly fire survived. But shame on the agency leaders and on that community who put them out there, without the training and equipment to win that very winnable encounter.
The cops had the numbers, firepower, and organization to easily win. But failing that, when Dzokar drove away. How did the numerous cop cars at the scene not chase him like he was in a stolen car on a Los Angeles freeway? It seems he just drove away until he bailed with nobody in hot pursuit. There are a lot of things here that do not inspire confidence.
Sorry, DR, that wasn't necessarily aimed at you, but as a general comment on things I've noticed lately.
“..disrespect the spray and pray technique.”
ever been in combat?
I don’t like what I’m seeing. The day notice of the three boys being picked up for questioning it was said they’d be brought to the Boston federal court building and all the media showed up. DHS cops were already there. No Boston cop stood at the door of that court, but 4 DHS officers. And the boys didn’t show up.
During Thursday night, the bomber brothers got spooked and went on the run starting in Cambridge. There they started some mischief which attracted the Cambridge cops. Immediately the cops made the connection that they were the bombers.
As the brothers fled, surrounding communities brought more on duty cops into the pursuit. the chase started with dozens of cops. By time they cornered them in Watertown, they had maybe hundreds in the pursuit. It was dark. The cops were from multiple departments which was chaotic. The younger bomber took advantage of the confusion to make his breakaway.
He did the smart thing, find a place of concealment and stop moving. It took a while longer for the cops to set up the search perimeter. They did have the perimeter right. He was wounded and on foot and wouldn't be far from the car he abandoned.
Where the cops first failed was in locking down 1,000,000 people in which 970,000 were outside the active search perimeter. I suspect this was more of a political decision by the mini despot Patrick. This was a great waste of people's time. Where the cops failed a second time was in not lifting the lockdown by noontime. Lifting the lockdown would free up thousands of eyes familiar with their surroundings. It would also tempt the younger bomber to move out of his place of concealment to try and blend in with the community.
What should be clear to everyone is that massive amounts of militarized police, are not effective in actual policing of benefit to the population in general.
I’ll be curious to see who is blamed for the MIT officer’s death. Thus far, they have no evidence it was either of the Tsarnaev brothers and Jahar has not been charged.
