I thought it had already been redefined...by those who declared marriage was purely about the “happiness” of the adults involved. Their self fulfillment - their goals - their hobbies - their money etc....

That was the real turning point. I think that attitude was developing during the fifties, with the rise of modern psychology, and took off in the sixties. "No fault divorce" was probably the legal tipping point.

The notion that the primary purpose of marriage was to have children and form a family seems to be rare now.

My hopeful side says that people want to have kids "sometime," and once they have children, they mature. My cynical side says that people view their children like pets. Nice to have around sometimes, but a lot of unnecessary hassle.

OMC—you nailed it! He is actually a member of Mensa, no joke. As such, you bet there’s nothing anybody can tell him.

The truth is, he’s quite smart but lacks wisdom. He had a major, major heart attack [smokes like a smokestack & drinks a lot on a daily basis]. Afterward he wrote a piece for the local paper entitled ‘Surviving a Heart Attack’. He ended with the lines, ‘My Christian friends are using the experience to try to convert me. I don’t know why; I’m not trying to convert them to Wicca’.

Sigh.

Pretty sad state of affairs. Not interested in truth, so there’s not much to work with. All you can do is pray for him.

“All you can do is pray for him.”

Amen, brother. I do it on a daily basis. Prayer moves mountains. We’ll see what surprises the future may hold.

Hedonism vs responsibility

id vs ego.

grasshopper vs ants.

hedonism is only about now, responsibility is about future.

So, now you are saying that if gays adopt they will make better economists?

right! And this is why it’s so difficult to fight the re-definition when it pertains to gay marriage.

If we have already re-defined it for straights who think of themselves first - who view children as a burden - and often view fertility as a PROBLEM - then it isn’t that large a leap to accept gay marriage.
