Interesting point, I'd have said "An Unnatural Need to be the Center of Attention".
I'll chew on "Self-Loathing", will pay a little more attention at the next get-together.
Ponder:
Homos make everything about being gay. My sister in law was a master of that until her black girlfriend left her for a dude. Then she was straight and everything wasn’t about her gayness anymore. That indicates to me a need to belong to something and it can be a throwaway as it proved to be with her.
So why the need? What is missing that gay needs to fill the role of? As you saw, there is a big mental thing there and most mental problems come down to a problem with the self and the perception of the self.
When one has such ‘problems’ with unhappiness with the self, that is textbook self loathing. “I must fix me because I hate me. Gays like me when I do that thing so I will do that thing and be happy like/with them! I can belong!”
Except they aren’t really happy with their self either.
Viscous circle.
Something to think about.
I guess it depends where you lived then. I grew up in the South in the 1950s and I cannot ever recall anyone referring to them as "homosexuals." They were "queers" to us.
