It is insane that we have allowed policies such as this to propagate. This is *not* an aberration any more. This insane anti-knife policy has become national.
Knives are arms protected by the Second Amendment.

When we go hiking my teenage son usually has a multi blade knife in his pocket, a good folding buck knife in the backpack and a ka-bar on his belt. If he could get away with it I’m sure he’d strap one of his machetes to his pack.
I don’t think he’d do well in California schools.

It's a good thing he didn't take a bigger knife

I remember sitting in home room in Junior High ('60s) cutting out the magnet in my notebook. It slipped and cut my hand which required 3 stitches.
Nothing was ever said about bringing a knife to school or leaving it home in the future. Just to cut away from yourself.

I’m a Scout leader and encourage my scouts to carry a knife. I also spent last week at the FIRST Robotics World Championships. I suspect a large percentage of the 20,000 competitors had knives because they are indispensable tools. We also had unfettered use of reciprocating saws, band saws, drills, grinders and countless other tools. If you want to see some young people performing at their best, youtube 2013 FRC Championship.

I would happily make that drive even if it did cost me my job just so I could administer a world class beat down to the idiot who called me.
