Sikh’s are a tiny minority in the US, who keep to themselves, and are generally good people who we rarely hear anything about. Do we need an acrobat caucus too?
I dealt with a lot of Sikhs at my last job. They were very pleasant to deal with.
A fictional move not withstanding, while people tend to initially cluster around those with which they are familiar they expected their government to rule with a blind eye to race, ethnicity, religion any these hyphenated Americans in our government simply prove we no longer strive to assimilate.
The country is a much lower class country thanks to Ted Kennedy and his deliberate Balkanisation of this country.
Bringing in more from the turd world while excluding those from Europe willing to contribute, not teat suck, is killing the country.
Unless a thread like this appears I NEVER even think of my German/English/French (yuck) heritage. I wake up every day thinking I am an American and would never define myself as a hyphenated anything. I pity those who cannot grasp this concept and detest those who would use the hyphen to work against us.
There is a Sikh temple in my area which may explain why there are so few muslims about, praise God.
Ears a flappin', feel like slappin'.
“Lot of Grief”
I’m inclined to believe “occasional” grief.
I’ll guess all American school children have been routinely lectured on the Sikh-Muslim distinction since 9-11.
I’ll guess that many American parents - white parents, anyway - still teach their children it is morally wrong to blame strangers for sins that were committed by other people who might look like them or dress the same way.
“Other members of the Caucus are Karen Bass, Gerry Connolly, John Conyers, Jim Costa, Jeff Denham, Raul Grijalva, Joe Heck, Rush Holt, Mike Honda, Hank Johnson, Doug LaMalfa, Zoe Lofgren, Tom McClintock, Jerry McNerney, Carolyn Maloney, Doris Matsui, George Miller, Devin Nunes, Frank Pallone, Bill Pascrell, Gary Peters, Jan Schakowsky, Jackie Speier and Chris Van Hollen. “
My congressmen fat walrus George Miller and Jerry McNerdy. Wow Jackie Speier, I thought she was Jewish. Tom McClintock - why?
That’s been my experience as well. Stand-up people who were some of the best fighters in WWII. They *earned* the right to wear the turban with their uniform.
Obviously trolling for votes. One of the factors in the Conservative Party’s success here in Canada has been active participation in Sikh festivals; they’re not a large voting bloc but they’re concentrated in a few ridings in Toronto and Vancouver where their support can swing an election.
Those are called "communities" and were no necessarily political action groups that are exclusive of other groups.
In each of those communities, people from all walks of life were allowed to enter, live and conduct business. Compare that to the exclusive political action groups that I listed. The same is not true!
