I was just going to say that, myself! I don’t know if GHWB is in any shape to go, especially since he was so sick a few months ago. He doesn’t get around much anymore. But it would be neat if GWB could go, or Laura! I’m afraid one of those anti-Bush goofballs would try to arrest him, though! They wouldn’t get away with it, I don’t think, but even an attempt would be disturbing! I’m surprised that one of the Reagan kids hasn’t considered going, especially Michael! I know Nancy would never make it; since she, just like GHWB and Barbara are so up in age, and don’t do much if any, traveling anymore.
Lord, please let me live long enough to piss on Obama’s grave.
I agree. I’m happy no one from this Administration will be there to sully Baroness Thatcher’s funeral.
fubo
My dad was stationed with the U.S. Navy at RAF Mildenhall in the mid-60s. Winston Churchill was the greatest man of the 20th Century.
Maybe the Obama administration was told to stay away.
Bastards.
Why? Neither of thos fellas, agreed with Lady Thatcher or President Reagan. Not one time.
The situation was quite a bit different - there were serious concerns about President Johnson's health at the time (he had just got out of Bethesda Naval Hospital) - serious enough that he could not go himself, and serious enough that it was considered undesirable for Vice President Hubert Humphrey to be out of the country as well. Remember, this was only just over a year after the death of President Kennedy. Secretary of State Dean Rusk was meant to attend, but fell ill himself.
This will be seen as a diplomatic snub, pure and simple - and there will be diplomatic consequences. It is perfectly acceptable for the President not to attend personally if domestic concerns are significant enough - and what has happened in Boston would make that even more significant. But not sending the Vice President or the Secretary of State in his stead is a significant snub (the First Lady, or any senior member of the Cabinet would have also been acceptable, as long as accompanied by apologies explaining significant domestic concerns (the terrorist attack would certainly justify it, but this decision was taken before that).
low rent, low intellect asshole, who is and will always be, a failure.
Bama will be remembered as a disaster.
Obama’s resentment of the old British Empire is always on full display.
As far as I’m concerned, this is a good thing. O is a slug who shouldn’t infest Thatcher’s funeral with his skiffy officials. It says a lot more about him than anybody else.
She was a wonderful ally and a perfect partner for Reagan’s hard stance to the evil empire. I miss leaders like the Iron Lady.
