The little black kitten was just about to open it’s eyes. About 3 wks old. Smoky let Hubby pick it up and she did nothing. Earlier when we looked at it she hissed. We’ll bury it tomorrow.

No. The kitten was perfect. It was just the way it was laying. And it’s all black so in the dark shade of the Hemlock branches that are piled on the ground it was difficult to see.
OH no. I’m SO sad. I wonder what happened. I so wish you would have been able to grab it from Smokey! Maybe she ran out of milk.
I don’t know. Daughter and I wanted this one because it was black like Sooty and daughters cat, Shadow.
It’s probably for the best. I think that I’m probably lucky that Smudgie lived.
I understand. If there’s a next time, have your daughter or husband, get plenty of chicken to entice Smokey out of the “nest” and you grab the kittens. I think Smokey is too old to produce sufficient milk. I’m so sad. I know y’all are, too.
