AARP just supports and/or advocates for the ones that give them the biggest kickbacks.

Which is why I avoid doing business with any firm which AARP promotes, AARP branded or not.

This whole bag of SS has been turned into nothing but a government scavenger bag. Cut off any and all who did not put anything as much as a penny into SS. Sorry for any, including children and elderly who didn’t give a dime or squat about getting what was taken from somebody else. Make these people subject to an out in the open welfare program. Give the people paying in today reasonable/market return on their money put into the system as was the original promise. Admit it, government has conned and cheated SS payees to get political power through votes. Where is any honest elected official on this societal sore?

Now that everything has double and tripled in cost in the past 10 years, reduce Social Security for the elderly..

Meanwhile tens of millions of illegals aliens choke off our welfare, social, services, medical care etc....

Actually, Social Security is NOT the drag on the budget deficit... Not adequate revenue... PERIOD!

many elderly receiving SS never worked, or worked very little, yet have been collecting for yrs and yrs...lets face that fact...

you can call SS anything you want....money was deducted from our paychecks for decades with the expressed idea of having something at retirement age....

govt employees with their fat defined pensions can willingly give up their pensions but please, nobody has the right to tell we the workers aren't going to get what we put in for....most of us don't have fat govt pensions or even private pensions...SS is it....

is it a broken system?..of course..because we have too many collecting who never worked, who are illegals or even new legal immigrants, and then the odious bad back SSDI people who have taken full benefits all their lives.....no wonder we're broke...but for Gods sake don't blame the people who've given their all...

What would best save Social Security would be to restore the “wage cap” at the 90% level as agreed to by a joint R and D group during the Reagan Admin in 1983. Since upper level wages have risen much faster than low level wages, and the wage cap was apparently indexed to inflation, by 1995 the cap level was hovering around the 85% level, more recently it has dropped as low as the 82% level.

All Obama would need to do is remind Republicans of this bi-partisan agreement, and restore the 90% level. This would not be a tax increase, it would just be keeping an agreement.

Or farm subsidies to big farmers who are collecting on land that never was and never will be in production.

Wow. I’m waiting to hear the Democrats and everyone else who threw a hissy fit when Bush wanted to reform SS rise up in anger against this proposal.

The cuts to Medicare look like actual cuts, and perhaps even more significant, use means testing to generate revenues, a strategy that both parties have avoided in order to maintain the illusion that Medicare (and Social Security, which acts as a qualifier) aren’t welfare programs.

Social Security and Medicare are NOT welfare programs.

I bought and paid for my Social Security and Medicare benefits. Can a Food Stamp recipient say the same?

Then give me back the $183,000 I paid in and return the employer’s share to them.

I’ll handle my own retirement funds.

Regards

How about you make participation voluntary?

Where’s that 183k going to come from? Us.

Make it voluntary and go from there.

So why don’t you let all of us opt out and then see where your ss benefits come from?

It’s a ponzi scheme.
