and Mr. J. C. Penny is rolling over in his grave!! (JC Penny was a great store...but like Sears, they lost their way!)
It’s a trifle difficult to achieve goals if you keep changing them or don’t even have them.
That is exactly my impression too. I had not been in a J.C. Penney's for a year until I went last month. What a change! The merchandise was of poor quality, the prices were high, and the store was nearly empty. What few sales people I could see were dispirited teenagers in rumpled T shirts. Penney's came back once before in the '80's by offering good values to middle class buyers, but I see no hope for them now. It's such a shame to see what was a good business being mismanaged into chapter 7.
Was at my local JCP yesterday and bought 13 long-sleeved shirts and sweatshirts (mostly to donate to homeless men for Christmas later this year). Original prices were all at least $40/item. With a $10 discount for a purchase over $25, got them all for just under $60, or $5/item plus tax.
Your assessment was correct. My wife used to shop JCP as there were certain women’s clothing items that she liked. Since Johnson took over, those items no longer can be found, and in their place is low quality junk. She no longer bothers visiting the local JCP.
This idiot has ruined any chance that JCP had of a comeback. They might as well shut the doors and escort Johnson out the door after paying him some outrageous dollar figure to “get lost”.
1.
driving off the customer base you once had? and
2.
driving off the replacement customers which you gained by jettisoning the former?
AND offending traditional Americans AND Gays... JCP ‘moves’ might go down in business lore as rival to the brilliance of ‘New Coke’....
