I think it is time for the Orthodox religions, maybe with the more conservative Protestant religions, to reach an ecumenical agreement that the only marriage they will recognize is between a man and a woman.
Each religion may add to these restrictions, but none may accept less. If a couple are not married by the lights of their church, their church will not recognize them as married, in fact or nominally. The same agreement includes the ending of marriages in annulment or divorce.
