If your son drinks alcohol, just a heads up: they tax the heck out of it. About 90% of the cost of Icelandic vodka is tax.

I have been to Iceland many times and have family there now in the West Fjords. Why does this family wish to relocate there? Do they have a job or profession that is taking them there? Living
in Iceland is a challenge not to mention it is very expensive there. Where are they planning to live? Reykjavik? If they are expecting housing like housing in the US they will be in for a real wake up. And purchasing property there is not easy for foreigners.
Iceland is a rugged, beautiful country and the people are wonderful. Many speak English as it is taught in school there as well as Danish. The Icelandic language is very difficult to learn and the kids will be expected to learn Icelandic for school. More information would be helpful and avoid some sarcastic comments about Iceland from those who have never been there.
Winter in the West Fjords has been brutal this year...and it is still very cold up there. Reykjavik is not as cold but can be.

Per Anthony Bourdain avoid the Hákarl .

Hákarl is traditionally prepared by gutting and beheading a Greenland or basking shark and placing it in a shallow hole dug in gravelly sand, with the now-cleaned cavity resting on a slight hill. The shark is then covered with sand and gravel, and stones are then placed on top of the sand in order to press the shark. The fluids from the shark are in this way pressed out of the body. The shark ferments in this fashion for 6–12 weeks depending on the season.

Following this curing period, the shark is then cut into strips and hung to dry for several months. During this drying period a brown crust will develop, which is removed prior to cutting the shark into small pieces and serving. The modern method is just to press the shark's meat in a large drained plastic container.

Despite the harsh sub-Arctic climate there, Icelandic women are said to be easy and (WARNING: ADULTS ONLY!) HOT!

So why are you thinking of moving here? Do you have residency permit or an access to one? If you are not an EEA citizen you need to have secured a job before coming here.

But yeah, now is the time to move or invest in Iceland, a new center right government is probably around the corner and with it solutions to the dreadful mishandling of the government and economy by the socialistic parties so we can look forward to better days soon. And if you invest here now you can get Icelandic kronas through the Central bank on a huge discount.
