all hell breaking loose right now!
Surely we'll have an eruption (if not already) from this. Maybe on opposite sides of the island from the last subsurface?
Thanks for the update!
- We want to reiterate to our readers from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean NOT TO BELIEVE so called imminent Tsunami danger alerts spread in articles and videos. There is NO reason whatsoever to believe that there is a high risk for a dramatic event.
Video report at link.
Why not? How much reason was there to believe multiple nuclear reactors in Japan would be wiped out an hour before it happened? How many people in Chelyabinsk woke up that morning expecting a destructive meteor? Here, we have de facto and a priori evidence that something major is going on which neither of those events could claim, so the probability is actually increased here relative to those. And it is easy to conceive of a physical mechanism that could result in a destructive tsunami.
Anyway, will be keeping an eye out for latest developments. Sounds like an evacuation might be in progress, but information is scarce.
you see the gps?
The islanders don't seem too worried. I remember the last quake activity begin occuring north of the island, but finally vented under the sea on the opposite side of the island.
Probably though, this one is already venting or will vent at the locate of the tremors?
the accumulated energy has already surpassed 2012....amazingly enough.
And as you can see the inflation is more dramatic.
As for the residents yeah no one is acting crazy on facebook like they were then but the government is also being more upfront with their findings.
That said...I still would think that they are extremely nervous...lol
Saw a comment by one of the islanders that they could sleep on both ears at once. lol
They should be worried. IMO, we're going to see geological activity not witnessed in recorded history or since the beginning of the last ice age... ;)
I tend to agree with you...!
Texas Brine Agrees to Louisiana Sinkhole Buyouts
"Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal says a Texas company blamed for the sinkhole that formed after the collapse of an underground salt cavern has agreed to provide settlement offers, which include buyouts, to the residents of the Bayou Corne community in Assumption Parish who were forced to evacuate the area as a result of the massive sinkhole.
Houston-based Texas Brine mined brine from the salt cavern and piped it to nearby petrochemical facilities. Many of the more than 350 residents forced to evacuate have been away from their homes since August 2012."
Big rolling now on el hierro.....
now website down cant tell for sure but they were reporting rockslides and residents having a feeling of vertigo...
It doesn't look like much until you see the scale against the buildings at the base.

Spectacular earthquakes going on right now in the ocean to the west of El Hierro A new strong earthquake (preliminary Magnitude 4.4) made chairs and ceiling lights moving and windows trembling. This last earthquake was also felt at the other islands.
Based on our earthquake experience, we expect that an M5 will be the absolute max. for volcanic earthquakes. In rare cases the Magnitude goes even higher but these are mostly volcanic explosions which nobody expect to happen + the shaking of every current earthquake is weakened by the sea.
We would advise people at El Hierro, to stay away from steep cliffs as rockfall can happen at any moment."
Some neat video of the previous erruption posted:
Still want to visit?? :)
You know what is interesting. Take a look at that photo. Does it not look like and old rift to you?
My first impression is the edge of a meteor impact. Something twisted things around in that part of the world. It could have been some kind of crack in the lithosphere, I suppose.
Sure is a lot that we don't know about our own planet...
