You have to compare apples to apples. If gay males make up 3% of the single, male market for disposable income, than that means that 97% of the remainder of that market niche is straight males. Across all employment sectors, gay single males and straight single males make about the same amount of income. But gay males make up only three percent of that disposable dollar, while straight males control 97 percent of that disposable dollar.
As a marketing manager, do you pursue 3 cents of that single male disposable dollar or the 97 cents?
JC Penney is proving that the gay marketing strategy is severely flawed.
