In many ways it is a joke. The place is full of stoners. Not sure what the law would change, other than the sale and cultivation aspects being legalized.
You've been around long enough for something of a better exchange.
I am tired of “libertarians” who want to have access to all kinds of drugs, and then taxpayers having to pay the costs to treat the people who get screwed up with drugs.
If they could legalize drugs, and the resulting costs not be born by those who don’t do drugs, it would be one thing, but that will never happen.
What is your “libertarian” solution for those who get screwed up so bad they can’t support themselves, or cause irreparable damage to others?
The “make it all legal” crowd is simplistic and naive. If they are locked up so as to prevent them from harming others, the costs of supporting them is still born by the taxpayers.
People already have access to any drugs they want. All they need to do is talk to people and sometimes not even that. If you dress well and go to a nice nightclub, dealers will hand you their cards. In most major cities you can have drugs delivered faster than pizza. The cops are obviously in on it and the WOD is a joke.
You see, it’s impossible to stop a product that costs very little to make yet is worth more than gold to the end user. The profit is so incredible that the market will override any laws. Even in countries where dealers are automatically executed, people will still gamble for such a huge profit.
Jailing users costs $50,000+ per year and doesn’t do anything to solve their drug addiction. It gives them a criminal record and makes them even more likely to become bums. They end up stealing thousands of dollars worth of value to give to a dealer for a few dollars worth of chemicals. The dealers make so much profit that they can easily pay off cops.
It would be far cheaper and better to legalize and give them the best possible drug addiction treatments. No incredible profits for dealers, far less theft and expenses for police/jail.
Since teens started reporting several years ago that they could get pot more easily than they could get cigarettes or beer, it appears that the more effective way to keep pot out of teens' hands is to legalize it for adults - so sellers have an incentive not to sell to teens (namely, the loss of their legal adult sales).
Of course they should, and they will be just like the Democrats. Democrats want it to increase so they can get more money to spend on our doped up populace. Think 1984 and THX1138.
Yes it destroys American families in droves, just like the progressives wish these days. A DUI a great job killer on your resume or in trying to join the military. Like other kinds of Pharmakia, it destroys families and lives just like the Progressives don't want to hear.
And we who counsel folks who have been messed over by it know just how well.
When we legalized the drug alcohol, did we get a liquored up populace?
Actually, it was Progressives who pushed for enactment of alcohol Prohibition and conservatives who opposed it.
I'm a substance abuse counselor, would you mind informing the rest of the folks here how it didn't screw over all those folks I've counseled?
Nope.
You never saw the un-screwed users because they never needed substance abuse counseling. Some people screw up their lives with marijuana, or alcohol, or fast food - does that authorize government to ban those things for everybody?
Nope, not dope.
That's very possible. And, that's very possibly because I began smoking dope as a teenager, a long, long time ago, possibly before your parents were born.
I'm convinced that pot isn't good for kids or even young adults whose brains are still developing. I feel sorry for the many young folks who are into chronic use of marijuana.
I don't care what old folks do or how much they eat and sleep. I don't want to spend a dime prosecuting old folks for drug offenses.
But, keep that garbage (including alcohol) away from the youngsters!!
If cops stopped policing the entire state and focused on schools and ONLY schools there would be much more drug interdiction in the schools.
Like I said, I have no objection to older folks using drugs, after they're, say, sixty or so. But, drugs should be strictly off limits for kids under 30.
I feel the same way about motor vehicles. They're just not safe for younger folks.
