Why are you a member/user of Free Republic?
At it's core, Free Republic (to me) transcends political parties and just as JR portends, our Constitution and Bill of Rights as well as our American Sovereignty are being trashed at every turn, by members of both major political parties...FR is a vehicle for likeminded patriots seeking to regain our Constitutional roots...
As much as both political parties disgust me, I realize that the Goofy Oddball Party is the one of the two that best serves our interests at the moment...
How does your being here advance your concerns for your nation?
Power in numbers...Individually, no one hears any of us...Together, Free Republic is a very loud voice...
Strongly agree that a spiritual revival is needed within America. Those who lost the ability to worship (Russia), are now embracing it. I am a supporter of Big Life and their model for spreading the gospel. However, I feel many organizations are overlooking America at a time when the government is trying to oppress religion. Separation of church and state was not to rule out religion, simply to prevent government sponsorship of one religion as England had embraced the Anglican Church. But then I’m preaching to the choir.
Thanks for sharing that optimistic view of our future. I’m going with that, and wearing a smile today. God bless you.
Off the top of my head - Hilary Clinton, very much in the picture today; Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, very involved; some of the older nuns, who are living in apartments and wearing street clothes, quite cut off from the Body of the Catholic Church; Jerry Brown, aka Governor Moonbeam, still alive and well and wreaking havoc in California - I do not believe the troubles caused by the 60s have fizzled out quite yet.
You don;t have to agree with me; it’s just my observation.
I believe it all stems, once again, from throwing off Christ and ‘wanting to be like God,’ as it says in Genesis. However, breaking traditions, changing mores, challenging structures in society that were working well - these have been front and center in the BB generation, especially early on. Having been a part of this generation and having turned, radically, from all I embraced some years ago, it’s just how I see it.
What else will we have to do in retirement except vote and infiltrate the Republican party?
I am in that group than.
1) Nothing less than the remoralization of America. The popular culture has degraded to a demonic state - I cannot think of another word to describe it. Change must come from the heart.
2) Should there still be a nation in 2030, I believe it will resemble Bladerunner to a large extent. Overcrowded, over-urban and over-legislated.
3) Excellent news source. Conservatism is often a lonely voice and I find some like minds here. Frankly, I steal talking points.
What does freedom look like when there no longer is a geographic frontier to take your dreams to? What does freedom look like when all is city, and there’s no elbow room between you and any faithless neighbors?
Will it look like a Christian counter-culture, a counter kingdom (of God), like in Roman times, when the church grew alongside of the empire and was there to pick up the pieces when that empire collapsed?
We’re not talking about an Amish-like withdrawal leaving the field to the secularists, but we’re instead talking about a fully engaged Christianity that is nonetheless autonomous, distinctive, and faithful.
Would the birth of such a culture lead to an actual war from opponents who would attack it?
I was born in Dec. 1947 so I’m at the beginning of the Boomer era. I lived in Atlantic City, N.J. growing up - actually in Ventnor a little south of Atlantic City. My dad was career military. We didn’t lock our doors and my mom left the dollars in the empty milk bottle on the porch for the milk man to pick up when he made his delivery - no one ever bothered it. Bread man came to the back door, opened it, hollered, “Bread man!” and laid two loaves of bread on the kitchen floor and left. It truly was the good old days. In the summer we’d walk down to the beach and jump the waves and play in the sand with my mom.
Prescription for America? Repent! We are never going forward until we deal with our sin/s - nationally and individually. We’ve been busy building our own kingdoms instead of His. As others have posted: II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways… Without this we have NO hope. Excellent post on several sites (freerepublic included) by Jonathan Cahan - Isaiah 9:10 Judgement. If you don’t “see” this as relevant nothing will convince you - go join the democrats as you’re part of the problem. You see, only moral people who’s trust is in a good God have the courage to confront pure evil - and that’s what we’re facing. They have hope that even if they lose the election or lose their life that in the end Christ will make all things right. In short, they are the best fighters. They are not tempted to do evil that good may come. They patiently wait upon the Lord. Most of our Founders were this type of person.
Politically, we can still do a lot. Don’t give in to apathy. I think B. Jindal’s advice is good. We can confront the Fed through state governments. Several states are doing this or starting. Know your state officials, write them, vote. There are 26 states with Republican governments (I think). That’s a start. The Tea Party made a difference - not everywhere, but we got Ted Cruz into the Senate and he looks great so far. It took time to get into this mess. Yes, we may not get out - but we certainly won’t if we give up. It may take a real economic collapse - a real depression - possibly world wide. When it comes people will be a little more willing to listen to an alternative point of view about what works - lets be ready to help with God’s love and His truth - however painful it may be.
What will America look like in 2030? An Islamic North Korea if we don’t do the above.
My wife and I are members of Free Republic as it’s the one “news source” we trust. I still love the format of the site and sometimes the comments are better than the articles posted - and usually with a good dose of humor. Some of you are very witty!!! I pray we don’t give up - but we have to get our moral/spiritual house in order or God’s judgement - which has already started - will take us down and no one will be able to stop it.
The problem is ... somewhere along the way the word “indian” some how got attached exclusively to the Native Indians of North America (in particular the plains Indians) but there were Indians in Central and South America too!
The present day country of Mexico is where the Mayan and Aztec INDIANS lived. Nearly all “Mexicans” today are simply decendants of the Mayans and Aztecs (and other smaller tribes) that have lived in what is present day Mexico for 1,000’s of years. These other “Indians” look totally different from the plains Indians of North America which is what I think causes the confusion. Take any typical “mexican” man... let him grow his hair long and but him in native dress and you will clearly see that he is an Indian straight out of some nature special on the native tribes of the rainforest or some such.
There is also another large group of native “indians”, the decendants of the Inca of South America which also have a distinctly different look from the Maya and the North American Plains Indians. The immergrants from El Salvador and other South American countries are decended from them.
As a late 1958 product, I have seen a great deal of the downward spiral of this country. Part of me feels as if, all of a sudden, I have woken up to political and social insanity. However, I have been ranting about the downturn of our society for over thirty years. If Norplant had been forcibly applied to the welfare breeders and we had taken the muzzie threat seriously back then, we might be in a better place now.
1. What is your prescription for this America?
Part of me doesn’t want to waste time waiting for change to come from our corrupted ballot box, and would commence with the abrupt removal of all who stand in our way. As I look back on the French Revolution and am revolted by the violence that took place during it, this would be an amoral and unacceptable solution.
We need to hold fast to our core values. Hopefully, we can serve as examples to others and win them over in that fashion. We need to put forward strong candidates that follow our ideals, those who can’t be co-opted by the lure of money or greater power.
2. What will this nation look like in the year 2030?
The gimme crowd will have won out. I don’t hold out a lot of hope unless things radically change right now.

Without people who I know that are out there with similar values to mine, I would probably become so despondent as to go insane.

A return to our roots - respect for God, life, each other, and constitutional rights. A respect for knowledge as opposed to just education. (The two do not always go hand-in-hand.) A return of education to teaching math, reading, and objective analysis, without the indoctrination factor. What will this nation look like in the year 2030?
IF this nation takes the prescription, it will be a safer, saner place to be. If not, I hope to be completely senile by then so that I won't see how bad it can be! Why are you a member/user of Free Republic? How does your being here advance your concerns for your nation?

I need someplace to meet with like-minded people. There are few of them here in Madistan, including my FReeper daughter Ellendra. I like the exchange of ideas, especially when all parties keep it civil and avoid the ad hominem attacks that are typical of, ahem, other groups. FReepers bring many things to my attention that would not otherwise appear on my radar, so that I know when something is coming up or already occurred that will affect me and mine.

1. Teach REAL American History in our schools. A classical education. Use primary sources like the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Teach pride in America, American exceptionalism. In fact, if possible, home school. Teach our children about our great country from the time they are born. Meanwhile, conservative kids need to become teachers (hopefully they don’t get indoctrinated in the colleges).
And, most importantly, get God back into our culture. Remember “American will cease to be great when she ceases to be good”. We are seeing that happen.
2. I don’t know what 2030 will look like. It depends on many things. What are we willing to do now to make it the place we want it to be in 2030? What are we willing to do to save our country? I am afraid of what it will be like if we don’t do something now.
3. I am a member of FreeRepublic because it is a port in a storm. It is (usually) a sane place that reminds me, every day, that there are still people out there who love freedom, America and our history. It is my home on the web.
I encourage all who use it regularly to become a monthly donor. We NEED Free Republic!
Simply put, we need fathers, and the fathers will create families.
When the gender roles started to skew, the families fell apart, and the entire experiment failed.
One of the more significant benefits of the baby boom was supposed to be the liberation of women. I think we have enough evidence to conclude we are worse off for women in leadership positions. This is true in both the government and commercial spheres.
It’s too easy to make a ‘heart vs. head’ argument about why they’ve failed pretty miserably in leadership roles (Yep, Thatcher is the modern exception, as is Phyllis Schafly, who wasn’t really appointed or elected).
My guess is that females historically haven’t had the luxury of being able to make clear, uncompromised choices with their lives. That’s probably controversial, but marriages were arranged for a very long time culturally.
In the one-income household, the division of labor was pretty evenly split, as grueling as it was for most everyone involved.
The seeds of the unraveling probably started originally with materialism, and not women’s sufferage.
Rosser Reeves, more than probably anyone else, is the guy who probably wrecked the family.
He created modern TV advertising. More than that, he made the argument to three generations who had fought WWI and WWII that they deserved a better life. You deserved a new car, freedom from headaches, etc. You work hard, as your fathers did, and you deserve to be happy.
One of the ads based on this that you’ll no doubt remember from childhood was from McDonalds:
“You deserve a break today
So go out and get away
To McDonalds
We do it all, for you.”
We started moving from one income families to two income families through the sixties and seventies, and the rest, friends is history in terms of the damage its done to families.
In Boy Scouting, arguably one of the most sigularly formulated programs aimed at the preservation of the nuclear family, started heading downhill precipitously, and then permanently after the death of ‘Den Mothers’.
The role of a Den Mother was to have a weekly meeting in the home of the Den Mother where a Cub Scout Den would meet, say the pledges, oaths, and laws, and then do some activity related to the curriculum. It would end with a snack, maybe a song, and then you did it again next week.
Today, there are very, very few women who have the time to be a Den Mother. Moreover the concept of having a presentable home, with two parents, available for a group of 5 to 8 rowdy boys, complete with snacks is very nearly an insult to modern mothers.
That’s not their jobs anymore. A clean house, the ability to cook, even the idea of being a role model isn’t something most women see as part of their responsibilities as a mother.
The stark thing about the boomers, is that by the time they are gone, there may be very little left of anything. They will have left like locusts leave an autumn wheat field.
It’s not every boomers fault, but no individual raindrop blames itself for the flood either.
