“Sounds like a stupid woman who could not properly identify another culture?”
I dont think she was stupid. She was after Hindus. She knew who Hindus were and correctly identified her target.
It’s not relevant to what kind of punishment one should receive. I cannot support punishing thought. I believe we should punish crimes. When we make thought a crime, it’s a slippery slope. Plus it’s not equally applied. How many black on white crimes are the result of black racism toward whites? You’ll never see that called a hate crime.
It’s not a thought. That girl killed a person. No one cares what evil thoughts you may have as long as you don’t act up on them. When you commit a crime your thoughts and motives are very much relevant to the case, which is why you have criminal investigation. You establish a motive for a crime. That is how every legal system works. Or else we could just hand out death sentences to every murderer and save us all the trouble.
In case of this girl, she killed a random stranger for no apparent reason. It’s important to know if she was completely insane which would call for a lesser punishment. Or if it was a hate crime, that would call for a more sever punishment. It’s important to draw that distinction if you want to have a fair and just legal system.
