We used to break thermometers and put the mercury in a tiny dish. Then we’d coat pennies and dimes with it, several times, until it was all used up.
And we’d coat the lead ends of .22cal LR rounds and fire ‘em thru my old 1958 Mossberg 144LS (still have it in pristine condition).

That was good for a few days entertainment.
Didn’t kill me, or my 50s grade school buddies (yet).

How did we all survive? I just through away a CFL that was supposed to last 20,000 hours, please don’t call the EPA.

And as these folks who could provide private sector jobs walk away for good, we are left with few experienced business people for the future.

Yep, there’s no sign they will hold the budget to the amount they take in.

I just switched 6 100w incandescent bulbs for 6 23w CFLs in some of the outbuildings here. FirstEnergyCo (Met-Ed) sent me a free carton of 20, along with other ‘energy-saving’ crap.) Those incans didn’t last 200hrs, though rated for 4,000hrs. The CFLs are rated for 10,000hrs; we’ll see. I keep records on that stuff, just for grins.

Well, I understand your sentiment, but those that are doing the most damage are those that are completely circumventing all rules that most of us have to live by. And that is the crux of the problem. How do you have a society based on the rule of law when those that write the laws make themselves exempt from guilt? Going around the country yelling "Tax the Rich" when A) most politicians ARE rich via lobbyists, spouses or some other means and B) there is no way that they are going to level the playing field for themselves through the legislation that they write.
