I recognize that issue, but in at least that one case I thought it was worth the risk. The druggie is going to buy his drugs, whether or not he goes hungry. At least with the meal in his stomach he's better fed when he gets high.
It was my understanding that anasognosia was a relatively rare and often temporary condition. Granted though, it is hard to disentangle mental illness from addiction on the street.
No, it's pretty permanent, but only in about half of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia victims. Read more at this link.
Most of my information came from reading the work of Dr. Xavier Amador. More about him here.
...1000% Thunderbird.
I bet this cop won’t be giving this guy more boots.
The government would probably give him 10 more pairs a year for life at taxpayer expense that are more expensive, but not as nice. (and made in Nancy Pelosi’s district by union labor)
The guy is hiding them because when out on the street if you have anything of value it gets taken from you when you are asleep. The officer should have bought him an old wornout pair of boots that kept his feet warm but didn’t have resale value.
I gave a nice bicycle to a man that was living in
rental house of mine,Found out later that he sold it
for scrap
The worst thing was he was arrested and taken back
to Houston for a 15 year old murder...nice to find
out you had dealings with a killer that bashed a 8
year olds head in
“Jesus wasnt a wino.”
There’s a transubstantiation joke in there somewhere but Im not smart enough to get it right. :)
Such is a works based salvation, which is not the Gospel of the Cross.
Well stated. GB
Just because the guy sold the boots for booze does not distract from the act of kindness.
I still thought it might be guerrilla advertising for the shoe store in the background. lol.
A couple of years ago I got scammed out of $20 by an old woman claiming she was from out of town, he car had burned up and she needed bus money to go to another city where she lived.
We gave her a ride to the bus station which was closed so she asked us to drop her off at a doughnut place where she’d wait until it opened.
Thought twice about it after dropping her off and doubled back. Not 2 min. after being dropped off she heads down the street to a convenience store. There’s a cop parked in the lot.
We told him what happened, he recognized her as a regular on the street and told her if she didn’t give the money back she was headed to jail. She ponied it up real quick.
The trick is not to substitute our grace for that of God.
As with all things, he proper way to perform that good work is to be in the right place, at the right time, and perform it in the right manner, through faith in Christ and let God do the work in the heart of the person receiving the gift.
In most cases, we’ll never see the consequences until the bema seat judgment.
In the working world, no shoes, no service.
In the beggar’s world, no barefeet, no handouts.
My husband predicted from the beginning that the guy would sell them for booze.
However, my sister-in-law came up with a better theory. The guy was sitting, shoeless, outside a shoe store. That was his MO. He knew people going into a store to buy shoes would feel sorry for the shoeless guy just outside and give him money. So, all the publicity he got from the cell phone picture really ruined his gig! He probably had shoes all along and just hid them.
Now he will have to figure out a new angle for maximum begging results. Bummer. (Or is it too un-PC to say any word containing “bum” when discussing the homeless these days?)
Good point.
He actually wasn’t sitting outside a shoe store, as I understand it. The policeman ran up ahead in the direction he was walking and ducked into a shoe store that was on his forward path.
