He posted an answer to your question. That you did not care for the form of it (for he chose to exercise his own 1st Amnd rights to both freedom of religion, & expression, choosing what he wished to say -- refusing to being dictated to as to what his response could be limited to) is neither here nor there, as is your own lack of understanding what the meaning(s) of his chosen answer included.
"...Hey, at least we have something in common."
Let me guess. You are both short-kinda-tall guys, two holes in your nose, elbow halfway up your arm?
Hey Blue.
There’s an old saw in Jewish circles that if you have three Jews discussing something you will get four opinions.
At any rate, sf would be right that the modern mainstream Jewish understanding of their faith doesn’t “care” about “different religions.” Whether it also instructs Jews not to care about particularized defamation is another ball of wax. I daresay that not just Abe Foxman but educated rabbis are bothered by some of the literally hateful memes about Jews to be found in Islam. Opinions are more mixed in that set about the allegedly defamatory import of various statements about Jews in the Christian New Testament, but virtually none of those fears are borne out by modern evangelical Christian explanations, at least.
The rift between Christianity and modern Judaism is based in a disagreement that dates to when Jesus of Nazareth was walking around, in the flesh, in the Holy Land. Putting it bluntly, Jesus the Jew told the standard bearers of the faith into which he was born, i.e. the Pharisees, that they were all religiously washed up. He kept on hinting in their faces that he was the Messiah but he couldn’t be pinned down. He acted and spoke like he thought he was God. The secular occupying authorities were baffled, but in the end were more concerned with whether they would see Rome’s wrath come down upon their heads than with whether Jesus had done anything illegal. Jesus was the center of unacceptable political waves, and so when a crowd said, against even all official Jewish principle, that they wanted him to die, the authorities listened, and the famous crucifixion followed. And I, as a Christian, would add, and the equally famous resurrection of Jesus followed too. They couldn’t keep him dead.
Well, it’s a long way to Tipperary, and it’s a long journey from that day to what we know as Christian churches. But the Christian story is a very Jewish story.
No, he or she did not. I refer you back to my comment #189:
So, am I damned to burn in Hell for eternity for recruiting an idol-worshipping heathen to play on my softball team?
Seriously, you guys are in the News forum. Saddle up.
No silly, not for "that." But the Christian bible states that all are destined to perish, if not saved, due to sin in general.
Oh, my. Is that kind of like saying that the Mormon bible (whatever it is called) says the same thing about us?
The old saw I’ve seen applied to commercial fisherman, and beekeepers also. It’s accurate enough.
I’m not cheering for the Mormon take on the bible. I thought that was obvious.
And I get miles of multi-colored, formatted graphics to "prove" something that cannot be proven.
people have been trying for 2,000 years to discredit the Catholic church....no one has done so, no one ever will!!!
Oh, people try, but on the FR Religion Forum.
I ain’t going to give you miles of graphics.
I’m just going to say I’m a fighting fundie, I’ve taken a side, and I joyfully disclaim moral equivalence.
Please tell me that you are not a product of public schooling.
What’s this “respect” — to allow that “hey, it might be true”?
You’re gonna have to look elsewhere than this ole Red Neck if you want that.
No problem, brother. Just don’t start with BS about “moral equivalence,” if you mean something else.
Nope, I mean it. Mormon faith is not morally equivalent to Fightin’ Fundie Evangelical Christian faith.
And no one said it was. LOL
a muslim is unacceptable
So now you understand just what I meant the moral equivalency about. You ain’t going to get me to draw analogues between Fightin’ Fundie Evangelical Christian faith and Mormon faith.
Boy, you are daft. Why would I need to link back to this exact thread that I used as the example?
Okay, just for you:

The Mormon faith is not morally equivalent to your faith, whatever it is. Thank you, Capt. Obvious.
