Dirtboy reporting in from NW Montgomery County, PA. Not bad here at all so far. Power went out for a minute about 2 hours ago. I would say winds are about 25-30 mph.
Folks need to realize that the baroclinic factors that the NHC though would be juicing up Sandy yesterday are just now kicking in, as Sandy remained tropical all the way to the Jersey Shore. As another poster noted, there are very strong winds aloft, and those are more likely to mix in over widespread areas once the storm goes extratropical, which has now happened as recon has observed that the eyewall has collapsed. So the second phase of the storm has just now started.

Looks like Sandy will be returning Thursday-Friday via Thousand Islands-Sherbrooke-Quebec CIty-Houlton ME, but as less of a threat.
Hope all our precious NJ-PA-MD-DC-VA Freepers have a peaceful night. My little grandson is in DC, but his milk supply is portable and does not require power.
Thanks for your hurricane threads - they are the best!

Must be nervous considering that it is a week before the elections.

Thanks, Miss Didi. Watch out for falling signs. We had one for the Aprenda Ingles center hanging by a thread. FDNY had to come.
Good work as usual on this thread, NN. My SIL is a maternity nurse at Atlantic City Hospital. I hope they are safe. And also all the babies who can’t wait for the storm to be over before they appear.

I’m on the border of Southern Hartford County and Northern New Haven County. Lights have flickered a few times but so far, that’s it. Rain and wind seem to be dying down.

I ran out to the health food store around 3 for more chocolate but it was closed...the sports bar, bagel place, and other stores were business as usual. How will the workers get home, I wonder??? After my quick walk I decided to stay home and keep organizing my closet. :)

Much discussion over the years that low barometric pressure during hurricanes actually induces labor. Last I heard, studies were inconclusive.

Not complaining whatsoever, but unless it's planning a loopdyloop, she seems to be skirting to south / west as of 1825 EDT.
Darkness has settled in .. rain's almost stopped for the moment .. winds are down to ~15mph .. still have power .. hopeful thoughts remain for the safety of y'all, and fingers remain crossed .. lol !
