Please be considerate of many FReepers with concerns for life and property. As well, avoid large graphics due to heavy internet traffic and for the benefit of those who have lost electricity. fyi--NWS current weather sites are bogged down at this hour.

(I'll repeat/expand my last post from the prior thread just to make sure I get the question answered):"You sure about this? Storm Surge COULD reach 14 feet if this were a class 4 storm."
Believe it. Here's why:
1. Angle of arrival is 90 degrees to the coastline. Very unusual' worst-case scenario (multiple hours of "pushing water" to shore).
2. VERY large storm. Lots of energy to push over a much wider-than-normal swath.
3. Certain areas much more susceptible to flooding that aren't even near the center of circulation due to geography - NYC in particular - due to "funnel" effect of water being driven from a wide bay into a narrow feeder.
Also note this new tweet:

My elderly parents are in the hurricane strike zone (southern Nassau County LI). To compound things, my father had a small stroke this AM and is now in the hospital 2 miles closer to the shore.
Prayers would be appreciated, if you are so inclined.

What a blow .. Obama and his Sandy press conference .. re: You better do what you’re told or uhhh.. you’re on your own.
Thanks to Sandy for giving the race crowd a pass yesterday.
Thanks for the thread, NN.
Godspeed and Best Wishes to all those in the path of Sandy.

Found the source of the new low pressure reading (re: report on prior thread):
Levi Cowan @TropicalTidbits
Recon pass finding lower pressure yet again, down to 937.5mb extrap. That is a 6mb fall in 1 hour 40 minutes. #Sandy
Link to chart here.
This pretty well CONFIRMS the worst fears from the models last week.

Our local weather channel in South Jersey is saying that he believes the storm will be coming in around 6PM. If it does the surge will beat high tide by 2 hours.

New London CT has already had 1 high tide with this storm. Ferry parking lot was flooded. Tonight’s high tide will be worse.
Lost power for an hour earlier today, but it has come back on. Just windy with a little rain in inland CT. I think we’ll be ok, but the shore is going to be hammered.

Glad to hear he got there... the hospital should be safe. Thanks for sharing that; mercy and healing requested.
