Well, I’m very sorry but for good reason John has security locked down tight on FR’s hardware and software. I do not even have access myself and I’m senior partner.

Appreciate the offers very much, but I can tell you from experience that there’s no way he’s going to allow anyone into the secure environment. If you have concrete ideas to suggest you can always freepmail them to him (or me).

Well, he did make an exception once when he got really desperate and needed someone local to standby to reboot a server that kept crashing, so who knows.

Thank you all very much.

Ain’t no reason to be sorry. I do exactly what John does and if FR were my responsibility, the answer would be “No way.” Security exists for a reason. It is that simple. I’m a control freak when my butt is the one exposed also.

And then there’s the little problem of “helpers” not knowing anything about the operating environment and needing more help than they’re giving. ;)

Ha!

Just let me get my fat fingers in there. I’ve been known to mess up a few steel balls with my tiny rubber hammer!

Seriously though, FR has been my internet home for so many thousands of hours I would never try to guess!

Jim and John have always come through in a crunch and FR WILL get fixed eventually! It my not be before Nov. 6, but before 2016 for sure.

I have 100% faith in the Robinson guys to fix the mess!

Well, I understand, and yet I’d bet on B.E.T. I had a chance to really get a feel for her tech forte on the ride down. I got the sense, even though I don’t know her language at all, that she has a superior level of expertise and utmost professionalism, and that what is said / shown to her WOULD STAY IN VEGAS.

I only get that sense of expertise from a few people. If I am interviewing someone for a job, and I get that sense, I ignore flubbed tech tests or other considerations and make the offer. I have never regretted going with my gut on that sense. She is someone you want to put in your ‘binder of women’, LOL!

HA! THERE, RIGHT THERE, is the reason C# is superior!!!

I can show you CDC code of my websites, and THERE IS NOTHING YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE TO PENETRATE CDC SECURITY.

And THIS!

C# is largely operating-environment independent. Basically, if your OS has a CLR-interpreter, I can compile code that will work for you with no modifications. Other than that, open the right ports in your firewall, and you are good to go. No-brainer, "copy directory" deploys.

When will you PHP people EVER LEARN? ;)

Heh! A b*tch in a binder.

I totally rock at being a cruel-hearted b*tch in a binder.

This is gonna sound kinda like mine’s bigger than yours, but ... dude, I write the shiz that makes your code portable across platforms ... backwards and in high heels.

B*tch in a binder, baby. BIAB.

Just translate the ASCII buffer into Fortran, pop the clutch and it should fly like a beagle!

I'm sure you do write that stuff. Glad someone is out there writing that thankless code. I'm much happier flying at 10,000 ft (not quite 30,000) and writing Bigger Awesomes Every Day. Object Orientivity, baby, give me a custom control wot is written with well-defined external facing props and meths and make the whole thing self-contained, then pop it in a form like a repeater, and BANG. I'm happy.

Of course, I'm always happy when I BANG.

Correction: Translate the EBCDIC buffer into Cobol-68, and you got it.

And . . .

Re: my previous. That's what I get for going back to an open window without refreshing.

Also, replying to a post in this thread was slow for me, FWIW. It's not just peak time in which things are slower than they ought be, based on use of other forums.

Still gotta dump the ASCII overflow as you can’t have all of those little characters running around willy nilly.

While your analysis is sound, it overlooks one factor: Zombies. Hoards of zombies streaming through the cities, in a neverending search for living flesh to tear into with rotten teeth and rend apart with decaying hands. Groaning, gurgling zombies, who can only be stopped by direct trauma to the brain, that overwhelm everything they see like a plague of undead locusts.

Zombies.

Your insight into the overall issues at 185 are very useful in understanding the challenge John has. Thanks.

May we all be so fortunate as to one day have a hobby that turns into a nationally recognized vocation and we get to partner in it with an adult offspring. We know the Robinson’s have spent many a late night working to allow us to participate.

I use Password Safe for username and passwords. I can copy the encrypted file to anywhere, and not worry about losing it.

If you don’t delete tracking cookies, every website you visit can track you. If that is fine with you, then there is no need to worry. But, don’t think that Facebook is the only offender.
