If he had any chance of winning re-election, that chance just evaporated last night. The public murder and shaming of a US Ambassador is not something Americans want their President to be blasé about.

‘optimal’ means: best possible compromise solution to a problem, when there are several competing considerations, not all of which can be simulataneously maximized.
Does that mean that if 100 Americans were killed that WOULD be optimal? Or do I just not understand?
