We saw it last night!
It was GREAT!
Can’t wait for Part 3!
Saw it last night, and it was pretty good. The novel was great, and I just don’t think it’s possible to do complete justice to it in 3 movies; the material is so rich that it requires a miniseries of at least 20 hours. Otherwise, some of speeches and dialog appear to be empty pontificating, because there isn’t enough action in the plot to back them up.
That said, it’s a fun movie, and very well done within the constraints of the format. The ideas expressed in the movie are as important now as they’ve ever been. And the pacing and production values of the movie were better than in Part I. So I personally hope that as many people as possible see it. (BTW, if you see it, buy the ticket in advance on Fandango. Reason: Fandango purchases are immediately imputed into box office stats, letting people know the movie is popular, thus helping to extend the movie’s run.)
Seeing it today. Can hardly wait.
Seeing it today. Can hardly wait.
Grrrrrr...
No chance of seeing it up here in Canada until it is on DVD.
The movie is very well done and absolutely perfect timing for this election cycle.
Great defense of capitalism and explanation of why money/profit is so critical in a free society.
Funniest part to me was Bob Beckle flubbing his line.
Another fun fact: Alex Kozinski, the libertarian Chief Judge of the 9th Circuit, was an extra. He was a non-speaking member of the Unification Board, at the tail-end of the panel.
Wouldn’t that be the 9th CIRCUS court?
Happy Birthday US Navy!!!!
Helping keep mankind warm for 65 years. (In a deep Hemi rumble sort of way.)
I think Jonathan Hoenig has a cameo in it, too. He’s my “fave” of the financial talking heads.
I just ordered the DVD of Part I which should arrive soon. After watching that, we’ll see Part II on the big screen, if it’s still playing.
Is it necessary to have seen Part 1 in order to understand Part 2?
No. My wife and I saw it yesterday, and she had neither read the book nor seen part 1, and she understood what was going on. You will understand more of the understories and the characters having prior knowledge, but the movie was done to be able to stand on its own.
I’d suggest you read the book. Watching the movie afterward is a nice treat, but buy the book.
You don’t need to see Pt.I to have Pt. II make sense I think. Pt. I is on Netflix and Netflix usually has a free trial period available, so you coudld watch it that way.
That entire Circuit may be somewhat Circusy (as personified by e.g., left-wing Judges Reinhardt & Pregerson), but you’d like Judge Kozinski. He was pro-2nd Amendment long before it was cool. Also great on the Takings Clause, the 1st Amendment & many other issues.
How busy are the theaters showing it?
Went last night. About 70 people in a 100 person theater. Good movie but it left itself hanging for part 3! There were very direct statements against socialism/communism/marxism made in that movie and I was glad to see it.
Saw it today at the early show; about 75 people in a theater holding approximately 300. Everyone who cares about November 6th should go. It is directly topical and shows the country falling apart under an increasingly oppressive, authoritarian and regulatory government that could easily be the Obama Regime with freedom loving capitalists and the best and brightest Going Galt. A few are still plotting resistance and Part II ends in a cliffhanger. I hope the producers make enough to make part three and there is enough of the US left to see a wide distribution of part III.
