All accounts from the battle at LZ X-Ray say Plumley used the M1911 as his weapon. It should be noted that his primary functions were to Keep Hal Moore alive. Not an easy task as Moore is not one to hide. Also, to run the LZ. Collect and distribute supplies and ammo. It was reported that above the constant noise of battle his voice could be heard shouting instructions. A hot LZ maestro. I like the story of Plumley pulling a white hot magnesium flare out of an ammo crate and tossing it away, barehanded.
