Mishima was a nutcase (and his writing is boring as all get out), but I think you’re wrong about who unsuccessfully tried to decapitate him. Masakatsu Morita failed in his attempt and committed seppuku himself, by earlier agreement another member of the Tatenokai, Hiroyasu Koga, finished the job on them both.

Probably not a sex scandal —it might mean that it was his job to disclose something or induce some change that he found unbearable.
My guess is that a VERY large entity is bankrupt and nearing the end of it’s rope.

Awkward time for a bogey.

Investigative sources said the minister was discovered hanged at his home in Tokyo and was taken to hospital but confirmed dead. Tokyo police have found no sign of foul play.

This man was Japan's Financial Services Minister, not the Finance Minister. He'd be equivalent in this country to the head of the SEC, whereas the Finance Minister would be something like a morphing of the Fed Chair (Bernanke) and Treasury Sec. Geithner.
While the suicide of such a high-ranking official could indeed point to trouble for Japan's economy, it is nowhere near as serious as it would be if it was indeed the Finance Minister who had committed suicide.

Hahaha...! Nah...!
But he WAS a celebrity —a whacko designer with technicolor dyed hair who...got into a physical altercation with a woman whom he almost beat to death —pretty unJapanese. They invited that whacko onto a lot of TV shows, later.

No, it’s true! They had cheerleaders too.
‘Seppukuties’: geisha girls who did fan dances and urged the participants to kill themselves cleanly and honorably.
Golf lost a living legend this morning. I surprised it hasn’t been in the news: Jack Nicholson, RIP.

Yes. I would say things you don’t want to hear about when the global economy is on tenterhooks: finance, banking or treasury minister suicides.

He did have a fine way of crafting words, unfortunately it was lost in the craziness.

Wrong, it was Masakatsu Morita that attempted the beheading. He subsequently committed seppuku himself and was beheaded.
Kinda difficult to have a successful Hollywood career without a head.

Are you sure...? How could they tell...?
For some film genres these days having no head could actually provide a career boost....
