I hate this question; it’s shallow. The question is: “Are America and the Constitution better off than they were four years ago?”
A loser who won the lottery is better off. A welfare queen who just had her entitlement check increased is better off. Someone who snapped out of a 5-year coma is better off. But America has been ravaged. Being “better off” can’t be the criterion for voting for Obama.
I have to admit that economically speaking I am better off now than I was 4 years ago.
But I am in a business that thrives during tough economic times.
I also benefit from everyone else’s misery in that my commute to work is a lot shorter due to the number of unemployed people who no longer share the road with me.
I am definitely not better off. I lost about half of a retirement fund in the O’s first 2 years. I cannot quit right now without a huge change in standard of living. It’s possible, but unwise.
Fuel prices are beyond the pale: electric, gas, gasoline, diesel.
Meat prices have gone up by almost a half from about 2.25 to 4 a pound for beef and similar rises in other meats.
Veggies are up double. Tomatoes are like 2 a pound, for pete’s sake.
And now corn on the commodity market is at $9+.
There is BIG trouble coming with inflation due to these things. But even worse will be when the Fed decides to stop keeping interest rates down.
