That is WAY above your pay grade and you don’t get a vote on that Day. You worry about your own soul you effin Pharisee, and I’ll worry about mine.
mkjessup,
Pharisees were people who said one thing and did the other.
Your analogy is flawed.

Not at all, Pharisees were your spiritual ancestors, parading their 'superior' morality while simultaneously looking down their noses at the rest of society, and giving 'thanks' to God that they were so much better than those filthy sinners, that is exactly how you and your ilk are coming across here.

"Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a Publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus to himself ‘God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are: extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this Publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.’ And the Publican standing far off would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, ‘God be merciful upon me, a sinner.’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbled himself shall be exalted."
~ Luke 18: 10-14

Now get those robes of yours dry cleaned, don't want to have a wrinkle in them 'cause Sunday's comin', ok?

Meanwhile, pardon me while I beat my chest and ask for mercy.

Millions of Christians over the centuries have chosen to remain true to Christ, even in the face of certain death because they refused to recant their faith in God

My personal time of choosing has come and I choose my soul because even if America became as bad as North Korea, they still couldn't take my soul. Now imagine the horror of the man who sells his soul only to realize that he has simply paid for a slower trip to hell.

I agree, Pieter. The example of Hezekiah is to the point. We place our trust in God and not in earthly means.

If we contrast Hezekiah’s reign in Jerusalem in Isaiah’s day with Zekekiah’s reign during Jeremiah’s day we discover that each was beseiged by the major world power of the day, Hezekaih by Assyria and Zedekiah by Nebuchadzezzar.

Contrast the worship taking place within the city. Who was the liberal and who was the conservative?

2 Kings 24: 19 (Zedekiah) And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.

2 Kings 18: 3 And he did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done. 4 He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah; and he broke in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made; for unto those days the children of Israel did offer to it; and it was called Nehushtan.

Who knows what will come out the other side of this? All we know is that we are “strangers and pilgrims in this land” and that we “seek a better city whose builder and maker is God.”

We call evil, evil, and we call good, good. And the chips fall where they fall.

I just heard on Fox and Friends that Romney said last night “We are Americans...we make our own destiny.”

I don’t fault him for what is a catchy phrase that is intended to be a kind of determined patriotism and part of a popular understanding of self-sufficiency.

However, the truth is that all of life is in the hands of our Almighty God.

Daniel 2:20...
“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
21 He changes times and seasons;
he deposes kings and raises up others.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.

Actually, mkj, you and socon are both right about the pharisees. They were, as you point out, arrogantly self-righteous, but as socon said, they were hypocrites.

However, to extend your illustration regarding the tax collector, it is important that we see in that text what made him acceptable in God's sight. It was his admission that he was a sinner.

Now, when a sinful woman came to Jesus, she was rejected by the pharisees. Jesus, however, forgave her.

Note, though, that Jesus did not leave it there. He said, “Go and sin no more.”

Is there sin in Christians? Of course there is. The Apostle John says “if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves...” Yet, he also points out the remedy: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all our unrighteousness.”

It is a constant struggle that doesn't leave us. Paul says that “the things I want to do, I don't do, and the things I don't want to do, I do.”

He goes on: “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

So, MKJ, we all must deal with the things that enter our lives that we understand to be wrong. It is best that we do it humbly, as did the tax collector, but that doesn't absolve us from the responsibility to deal with it wherever it is that we discover it.

If the Feds want your info, they have more ways of getting it than anything that may be discerned from flying your State's flag on your FR profile page. Nah... You've got something to hide... Probably more than one judging by the content of your "posts".

We'll add paranoid to your ignorant and stupid attributes.

I've lived in many States, including South Carolina, Florida, and Texas. I'm here now because our parents are getting up in age and we want to be here to support them in their declining years. You, of course, live nowhere worth bragging about.

The only embarrassment here is that your Mom keeps paying your ISP fees...

That's a very kind thing for you to do. Based on your posts in this thread, you'll be able to all decline together.

Have a nice day.

I intend to.

You, on the other hand, still need to go buy some new sneakers with your Mom so you have shoes for your first day of school next week...

Don’t forget your bib when they bring you that green pea soup for lunch. Also, please don’t put your teeth out on the table in the dining hall, it’s not very considerate to the other patients.

Ya know if I hadn't first used that word 'projection' at post #134, you wouldn't even have it in your vocabulary. Tell ya what, since this trainwreck of a thread has been moved to the 'Smoky Backroom', reach around and hold a lit match to your greasy ass and see if you can do some blue-flaming, maybe even produce some smoke, that will really brighten up your day, lol

I'm done with this thread, you started off like super-patriot of the Minnesota hills, gonna 'take up arms' and all that noise, now you're just reduced to lame insults. Go take care of your parents, that's what you moved up there for, ain't it?

Adios fool.

” Nowhere in the Bible did God, His Prophets, Christ, or his Apostles declare that his commands were situational. In fact, quite the opposite is true. He demands 100% of our will, not 90%, not 95%, not even 99%. We can’t pick and choose the situations that we are going to apply God’s laws and commands to; it does not matter if you actually believe or fear that Obama has the power to bring this nation to it’s knees. What matters, if we are truly Christians, is that we obey God.

You cannot compartmentalize your Christianity or apply filters to which scenario you remain loyal to Christ and those you will not be loyal to Christ. “

My! I guess that due to the fact that Americans can be just like Christ, there was really no reason for Him to die on that cross. I suppose we just have to bite the bullet, and allow the Muslim Communist to destroy our country(the last real bastion of Christianity and world-wide Christian evangelism, mind you).

As for “compartmentalized Christianity” by chance, did you vote for Ronald Reagan ? Do you realize that in spite of his Christianity, he was divorced, and had sex outside of marriage a few times? You keep trying to equate Christianity with politicians, and it won’t work. Politicians are sinful, fallible human beings.

If you want reductio ad absurdum, as Christians, should we not open our borders to every poor person.....you know, including Muslim Underground psychos, and Somali pirates? Surely, we can handle 300 million extra Chinese peasants, and 300 million poor street urchins from India. Have you emptied your checking and savings accounts, sold your home, and given it all to the poor ?

Look, I despise Romney, but we have a situation whereby
a single man will destroy this country, if he is not stopped. That leaves us a terribly flawed man to stop the communist onslaught. You say it is God’s will that we allow western civilization to collapse, because Romney is a sinner. Jesus spent most of his time with the worst of us, and died on the cross TO SAVE ALL OF US. You are not saved by allowing the destruction of America, indeed western civilization, and the last real hope of the spreading of Christianity throughout the world. You are saved by God’s Grace. Live with it, and quit trying to play God. He has no equal.

It's difficult to talk spiritual matters on FR, or anywhere on the internet, it's why I rarely do so. That being said: Good post.

I don't actually despise Romney, I just don't care for his governance record and don't fully trust him, he's clearly a RINO.

At this point, I'll walk over broken glass to get rid of the Marxist stain on our country. If I have to put up with disappointment over Mtt's silly RINO tendencies, I will; at least I won't fear waking up every day to the newest horrible thing that the administration has done to this country. Since 2009 it has been every. single. day. We won't have a country left if the stain is reelected.
