Well, unless we are hermits we all probably manage to love people who still do things that get under our skins. And no shrink comes stalking along claiming we are gluttons for abuse when we do.

But in another sense that miscasts the issue. Nobody calls for treating any official as an idol. Not even one with the stature of a George Washington or Ronald Reagan. The better question to ask is: what opportunities will or won’t the person allow or stymie? You even confess that yourself with concern about what will accompany and follow on to a Mitt presidency. And such matters can be validly debated.

But to simply slam your mind in people’s faces with God-talk looks a lot like falsely affected piety.

Romney’s liberalism does not in anyway contradict mormonism.

The mormon family structure is necessary because mormonism teaches they must earn their salvation. They have to be nice.

It contradicts the “official” charm offensive coming out of Salt Lake City.

I don’t know about Romney’s family, but I know other Mormon families who help non-Mormons. Including mine, under very ugly circumstances.

True, the SLC lds corporation has a powerful and deceptive PR machine.
Romney’s liberals does not contradict mormonism.

Learning to like Romney is like learning to enjoy pain and suffering. It’s a symptom of abuse.

Bump. Barf alert for Mittens and his flexuousness. His charm offensive may win some people, but in the end ..... Bozo's floor is still the 41% paid-for tax eaters.

It is certainly backed up by Mitt's stories that the Mormons are taught to help each other out when they're in need. Only dark side to that is how this sense of charity is reserved only for other Mormons, not for human beings in general.

It's been described how the Mormons are set up into districts nationwide and meticulously organized by their own central planners. That's one reason I think Romney is scary as a candidate (not scarier than Obama of course). The Mormon church is an example of central planning, controlling and organizing their people to do supposedly altruistic things. That's fine for a church that anybody can choose to join or break away from. But I feel Mitt, as he showed with Romneycare, wants to bring that same sense of central planning into the government. And because that involves confiscation of our tax dollars and mandating of the citizens to engage in certain behavior under the penalty of law, it's totally antithetical to everything conservatives should and do stand for. His record in Massachusetts is frightening. Romneycare is frightening. And the only consolation is that Romney doesn't seem to be a totally godless communist the way Obama is. Small comfort.

Doing nice things on occasion is not a reason to be president.

Of course it doesn't- I'm not suggesting otherwise. I've already gone through my own struggle with coming to support this guy- no one needs to tell me about Romney's shortcomings- I'm fully aware of them. However, I'm a big believer in looking at the FULL picture- see pros/cons or cost/benefits of a situation.

Because I've already decided to vote for Romney- despite his defects, it's a pleasant surprise to come across information about him that at least shows me he's not thoroughly detestable.

As to his religion- I have no problem with it- and have no interest in debating it.

Most religions of the civilized world posit a deity that holds family members responsible to care about one another. If such a philosophy does not exist, the forces of sin blow families apart very easily. That saves nobody’s soul, but will likely make a country in this mortal coil more civilized.

Have you ever wondered about the stories that come out about Romney helping people, the people he helps all seem to be mormons.

Even my mormon family in dire need did not receive help from their ward, ward members or other mormon family members, and that was when this particular mormon uncle was a bishop.

I am glad you received help from a mormon family.

Those 19 year old missionaries in neckties might make me roll my eyes, buy at least they don’t carry a spear, and i never need to worry that they might cut my head off or detonate a bomb.

Or march you away on a one-way trip to a "reeducation camp", as Bill Ayers contemplated for 25,000,000 patriotic Americans.

It still raises the conundrum of why isn’t Mitt playing along with the charm “propaganda” even if it goes no deeper. He’s as visible a figure of the LDS as they will ever get. If Mitt keeps on being a lying weasel then that has to reflect badly on the LDS. It can’t help but do so. Please pardon the pun, but the time sure seems ripe for Salt Lake City to give Mitt a “come to Jesus” call. So to speak.

Bingo. I really think you hit on something.

Romney is a technocrat, who thinks the right bureaucratic solution can solve anything. And yes, that would be very consistent with his positive experience with and appraisal of the Mormon Church.

That and his know-it-allism would be why he’s actually pushing for the implementation of 50 Romneycares, nationwide, as part of his campaign platform.

That always cracks me up. They actually thought they could do that here. They really truly actually think whoever they send won’ be shot dead on the doorstep? This isn’t Europe or Asia.

It would be good to keep up to date on this 50 state Romneycare push, if it exists. Where can the latest news about it be seen? You’d think that would raise some visible controversy because, like Obamacare, it would kill the golden goose of the best health care system in the world. Massachusetts gets away with it because the other 49 are carrying the capitalist weight of the system as we know it.

I fully realize within minutes of posting this there will be posters along to tear into the writer, the subject and anything that remotely shows Romney in a good light.

You mean like the Freepers who torn into Akin?

Along with touting the success of Romneycare—it’s actually increased doctor shortages, cost jobs, just recently led to the passage of rationing-based caps, and largely been funded by federal grants—he’s got this up on the healthcare issues page of his campaign website:

“Ensure flexibility to help the uninsured, including public-private partnerships, exchanges, and subsidies
Ensure flexibility to help the chronically ill, including high-risk pools, reinsurance, and risk adjustment”
