The history of the GOP (both parties actually) is to NOT OPPOSE your own guy. The young guns may influence Romney so that he only proposes “slow socialism” but it is still socialism. Romney will NOT be held in check because only the Dems will oppose him.
Sing it, DFU!
Kudos, Jim. Excellent call! Waiting for my Romney/Ryan bumper sticker to arrive in the mail as we speak...
Stop the victimhood.
Its time to oust the Obamunist from office.
I am a conservative. Since there are no conservative candidates, I will vote for the party that best represents my values. Perhaps the GOP will take notice if a conservative party receives a few million votes more than they did last year.
Thank you, Jim. Yes, it is going to be very hard to vote for Romney come November, but the alternative of four more years of the ravaging of this country by Obama and his street thugs is unthinkable. It comes down to fighting the battle facing us with the only weapons we’ve got. Unfortunately, it is Romney. You are right, it shouldn’t be this difficult and it didn’t need to be.
If the two parties continue to feed us bad candidates, the best option is not to stop voting. It’s to vote for a change in leadership at every point possible. I’d rather have a string of one term bad presidents, than a string of two term bad presidents. Second terms of bad presidents are always more damaging to the country.
Not raising the white flag, just smart enough to recognize political reality and that the future of our country is at stake. Obama threatens this nation every bit as much as did Imperial Japan and the Nazis. This first step is one strategic battle in the war against the left. We did business with Stalin because the Nazis were the bigger threat at the time. We then fought the communists and Reagan, Thatcher, and the Pope brought them down. Let’s get rid of Obama and then take on Romney.
Living in one of the bluest of the blue states, my decision is being made for me. To those in swing states, I pity the agony of having to make the decision.
That said, the REAL “last hope” for us lies not in the presidency but in Congress. If we can’t rout out the elitist numbnuts who by their utter spinelessness and inaction have AIDED and ABETTED the Communist usurper as he’s wiped his butt with the Constitution, if we can’t replace them with Tea Party conservatives — CONSERVATIVES, not Republicrats — we’re finished. It’s the down-ticket races that are going to decide whether this republic is alive to see the 2016 election.
has FR become a site where only supports the GOPe and not conservatism are allowed to argue?

I don’t believe you asked that question. After the months of excoriating those of us who took the view Jim took today, when it was not “popular” like it suddenly became this morning, now you’re gonna do the “poor me” act? By the way, you might want to start “living” your tagline and show a little more grace in your own life; talk is cheap (and hypocritical).
LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!
I am not a fool, I am a realist. The reality is that as a conservative, I have no one in this race that supports my conservative view point. Therefor, I will use my vote to advance the cause of conservatives. I will therefor support the Constitution party. This has to do with minor / major party ballot access in my state of Colorado.
“Im not going to follow the ABO/PDS path of shitting in the mans house and calling it ice cream.”
Same. I think I will take a very long break. Again.
I realize emotions will be running high over Jim’s decision but I’m asking as a fellow Christian that you suffer the slings and arrows but remain as a contributor on FreeRepublic.
I value your input even though I may disagree.
Kudos, Jim!
That’s fine Norm, there is a place for everyone. Britain had Churchill who saw the necessity to ally with Stalin to take out Hitler, a greater and more immediate threat. But she also had Chamberlain who thought Hitler could be mitigated and opposed Churchill’s alliance with Stalin and thought that alliance would be ‘giving up Britain’s soul’. (of course, he was willing to trust Hitler not to go into Poland.)
Obviously our situation is far more dire than that; isn’t it?
In WW II, would you have aligned yourself with Stalin to defeat Hitler? If you would not have, I respect you for your principles. Unfortunately, there would be no more America and we would not be having this discussion.
Again, I am not going to crap in the man’s house arguing against his position. Mine is clear. Yours is whatever you decide to make it. We obviously disagree.
