That is so sad. Paterno was my all-time favorite sports figure. As a matter of fact, some online security questions asks “Who is your favorite sports figure?” And I always put “Paterno”; and I live in Texas. Graduated from U.T. This whole ordeal has just grieved me.
agreed....just boggles the mind.
Just as an anecdote I remember hearing one voting precint bragging that they had 104% voter turnout. That is, I guess, until someone pointed out the obvious and the story disappeared.
“Really the GOP has a tough row to hoe in PA since there is so much cheating. Perhaps this voter ID law will take away the ridiculous Philly advantage. Well see.”
In Pennsylvania, the Republicans are destined to keep losing.
And there is a group that is DIRECTLY responsible for this — the PA Republican leadership. Not the ‘rats. Not a single one. It was the Pubbies who did themselves in, probably for good.
In Pennsylvania, the Republicans currently control both the statehouse and the state legislature. Last year, there was a move (sponsored by Republicans in the legislature) to change the way that the state apportions its electoral votes in presidential elections from “winner take all” to proportionally-awarded by congressional district (same as is in place in Maine and Nebraska). The governor was on record as willing to sign the new law.
And who shot it down? The state Republican leadership, that’s who. The democrats could not have stopped this, but the Pubbies did.
Pennsylvania has twenty electoral votes. Granted, if the state had changed to a proportionally-assigned system for electors, the Republicans would not be able to win all of them in any future election to come. But they would get at least SOME of them, perhaps upwards of nine or ten. Ten is better than nothing, which is what Pubbies have won there since 1988.
They don’t call Republicans the stupid party for nuthin’!
No sweat; FRegards.
Two things we need to know for certain:
1: Only eligible citizen voters get to vote
2: That our vote actually counts as we directed it, and that it is not being manipulated or stolen by political parties that control the networks of these new “high tech” corporate operated voting machines. Voters need a receipt and we need verification that vote count can be audited accurately. I don’t trust either party because they are politicians.
BTW: If it was up to me we’d have paper ballots that can be seen and touched and held forever, and that are hand counted by both Parties. Deviances will require that they be recounted. Spot check recounts need to be made by precincts and deviations will require recounts. Nothing is more important in a democracy than accurate honest voting counts. Accurate results are more important than prompt results for the media.
