He was no hero. I was a de facto coconspirator and enabler. His statue should be pulled down like those of other monsters more concerned with ego and self-agrandizement than than right and wrong.
Of course it’s not a legitimate internet debate until somebody makes the first Hitler reference. Good job.
You have got to be kidding!
Do you really think that Sandusky chose kids from strong families? Of Course not he grabbed troubled boys he thought he could turn into his girlfriend or found single mom's who thought the defensive coach at Penn State was an excellent role model.
Then when they realized something was going on the big cover up began. How is a down and out single mother supposed to fight big Joe and Sandusky?
yeah that's the point the Defensive coordinator was running through as many boys as he could get his hands on and Joe let him do it. Joe deserves the disgrace he got. His statue should be gone.
The football program has to be shut down because that's why they were trying to sweep it all under the rug. They must do everything to protect the program. Who cares about a few troubled teens just collateral damage to Penn State fans.
This has nothing to do with the parents. A prolific child predator was using the Penn State facilities as part of his M.O. It was a poorly kept secret among students and some faculty.
All children belong to all of us, and we are responsible for their safety.
If I had my way, the entire University would be burned to the ground.
Fire everyone involved from top to bottom. But to shut down the entire program? What the hell would that accomplish, except to hurt those young men who have irked so hard to go to a school they believed to have the best football program. What about them?
That solution is such a liberal solution. Instead of punishing the perpetrators, let’s just make everyone miserable. So stupid.
I went to a gun show today. One of the t-shirt vendors had a shirt: “Alien vs. Predator,” with an image of E.T. and Jerry Sandusky. Scary thing was the only size available was “small.”
What a shock, Penn State. chooses the football program over morality.
Have you ever heard of players transferring to other schools? It happens all the time. Scholarship players at Penn State would be able to go to other decent to very good football programs across the country.
I’m not saying a down-and-out mother is supposed to take on Paterno and Co. I’m saying she should’ve been there for her kid in the first place, so Sandusky could’ve never gotten never his filthy hands on him.
After all, who would think that Paterno would allow a child molester to roam around on campus.
Who knew that every adult who knew would keep quiet, even the gutless janitors who were more afraid of losing their jobs then telling the truth.
What a culture you guys got down there!
And many of these children came from broken homes.
Well, I suppose you could make the same argument when other universities knowingly commit recruiting violations. “It’s not fair to take away post-season games, scholarships, etc... It hurts the wrong people.”
These crimes are so despicable & went on for so long with top level approval. How could the NCAA NOT hit them with a death penalty?
But then again, I’ve lost complete trust in NCAA decisions over the decades.
Again, the liberal solution. Instead of punishing the perpetrators, we make everyone miserable. You have the brains of a piss-ant.

I’m done commenting on the whole thing. Many of you are simply not reading or understanding me. For the 100th and last time, I am neither defending nor supporting Paterno or the other enablers of these heinous crimes. They are worthless pukes. What I am saying is that it is not right to punish current PSU players, students, coaches, and anyone else who benefits from this program by shutting down or temporarily suspending the program. I’m not going to waste my time repeating myself for those who choose not to acknowledge this.
Oh, just wonderful. So by your standards, it is OK for open season on kids just because their parents are crap? Yea, that works. Maybe the parents of the parents were crap and on and on and on. Sandusky willfully did what he did for his own gratification and power. Joe Paterno did what he should have by notifying the university, but when it was apparent they would do nothing about it, his next stop should have been the police, and/or the FBI and then the media if that didn’t work. How much steel would have been in his words for his legacy if he would have put the kids above his own aura of power?
History if full of socially powerful people who were nothing more than moral cowards. They were able to keep the curtain from being pulled aside, until millions had been either seduced or willingly participated in the atrocities that ended with the deaths of innocent millions. If you have the moral courage to do so, I challenge you to read the book in my tagline that just may give you a different perspective.
Maybe keep the statue but build a cage made of titanium around the statue with Sandusky’s picture at his feet just so the reminder of this whole sordid tale can never be erased from history to be worn like a scarlet letter.
It is not your fault that the school, where apparently you are sending or getting ready to send your kids, has been exposed to be more concerned with money and power than the welfare of the kids whose parents pay a ton of money to be there. Put your man pants on because you are the one who needs to attain a grip. Do them and you a favor and see about Hilldale.
But you are ignoring that other schools have been punished quite severely for violations MUCH less despicable. You’re saying “never mind”.
Punishing athletic programs for cheating & moral failures will ALWAYS hurt innocent bystanders.
Serious problems.
Problems with their morality in general, their capacity to prioritize, and their ability to perceive reality in general.
Leave the statue and let it have a double purpose. It can be adored by the PSU admirers and it can be a symbol to the non admirers as to what happens when a person becomes the idol of so many without oversight.
Paterno screwed up big time along with others in an effort to keep the legacy of PSU and himself in tack.
I say leave the statue and let PSU suffer both the good and bad it brings.
So why didn't Joe P. think of the long term effects of his decision(s) NO LESS THE CHILDREN INVOLVED!!!!
