One of my favorites among his role was as “Jonathan,” in “Little House on the Prairie.” His gentle, underplayed performance was perfect for the part of an “angel.” Interesting that Landon took the same name for the other series he did, Highway to Heaven.” For a man with a very definite personality, he had a huge range. He was our generation’s Wallace Beery.”

Yes, he was made for the lead role role in Marty. What a good film that is, with strong performances by everyone in it. I liked him very much in Bad Day at Blackrock and The Flight of the Phoenix too.

I know I’m strange......I loved him best as Rogo in “Poseidon Adventure.” He was never better than when he was playing a tough guy with the heart of gold.
