Why do they call it “The Irish Hills”?
Tubebender thinks they call it the Irish Hills because they can’t grow potatoes there. But the potato famine only lasted for a short time so I think they could be growing potatoes in the infield.
The 24 Hours of Lrmans (24 heurs du Mans) is running now until 9 a.m. EST Sunday. Audi is leading overall in prototype. Michael Waltrip Racing is running a Ferrari 458 in GT class. Brian Vickers is one of the drivers. They seem to be doing well so far, but a long time to go.
Its named after the Irish immigrants in the 1850s. There used to be lots of cheesy old tourist traps around here but most are closed.

WoW... This race is gonna start before I finish my potatoes and eggs. My son is taking me to breakfast and then a tour of the quaint old town of Ferndale where there may be a Irishman or two. Do you have snails and slugs in Michigan?
I spread some shell flour around my cana lilies yesterday to keep the slugs at bay.
A windy day here today. Won’t be good for firefighters north of here. Already over 180 homes lost to the forest fire.
Will be lots of Amish buggies riding the edge of roads since it is Sunday.
Will any of the rain in the area help? ;-]
Looks like the track is about to get cleansed by a passing cell but they should be able to dry the track in a couple hours and git r done.
Take yur time, Tork!

8:05 a.m. ET — Michigan International Speedway hosts the Quicken Loans 400 this afternoon. It’s currently 68 degrees and partly cloudy at the track, with temperatures expected to reach a high of 83 degrees. There are scattered showers in the forecast throughout the day (40 percent). Marcos Ambrose will start on the pole for the race, which has been marked by a last-minute Goodyear tire switch due to the scalding speeds at the repaved track. Green flag drops at 1:16 p.m. ET.
We do need the rain.
At least it will be a lot cooler today.
Michigan race on TnT Ping.. looks to be a rain delayed start.. probably 2-3 hours or so before they get it ready for racing. The US Open and oodles of sports and such await..
In the mean time.. HaPPy Father’s Day!!
The hills here are now brown,, they were green a month ago.. had 3 thermometers showing 106 103 and 102 Saturday.
We’re supposed to drop at least 10 degrees today.. The tomatoes love it.. but the dang pool is almost 80.. still felt real good.
The game between the Tigers and Rockies will probably be delayed as well.
Ya Hoo! Let’s go Batman! It’s time and this is the place!
Rain delay start? First time all year that I was going to watch a race “live” as we boogie out of town ‘bout 4:30PM Pacific. ‘Bout the only thing gone wrong for the ‘Raiders this year...
88 yesterday, 74 today and freeze tonight w/high of 57 tomorrow. Central Oregon living and gardening at its finest.
Happy Father’s Day to all you Fathers out there. Hope you feel blessed -

12:37 p.m. ET — Another tidbit to keep an eye on once they go green from MIS: two, count ‘em two, competition cautions slated for both laps 20 and 45 for car adjustments.
12:33 p.m. ET — Brad Keselowski killing it like Johnny Carson on the TNT set. This guy has a serious post-race career in the booth...
12:25 p.m. ET — And, by the way, Happy Father’s Day to all the Pops out there! Best Dad’s Day quip so far goes to Kyle Petty on Countdown to Green on TNT, who says: “You’ve seen my career, my father never taught me anything.” You don’t really know how to drop a good burn unless you can put one on yourself ... kudos, Prince Ponytail.
12:21 p.m. ET — Big Daddy Kes on the Countdown to Green set. Oh yeah.
12:10 p.m. ET — Behind Mr. Ambrose (203.241 mph qualifying time!!!), the top five is rounded out with Kevin Harvick starting second, followed by Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne and Matt Kenseth. Ryan Newman was slated to start fifth, but he and Jimmie Johnson have changed engines and will start from the back.
12:06 p.m. ET — Light rain currently in Michigan, with a thunderstorm cell directly over the track right now. Showers are moving east and hopefully won’t be a problem for too long. No change yet on the 1:16 p.m. ET green-flag time.
12:01 p.m. ET — TNT’s coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quicken Loans 400 at MIS is live!
