Candidate Reagan would be running as the conservative he was, and the people would respond to him as they did.
Reagan would be far ahead today as a candidate than he was in 1980.

I guess I now realize that I cannot stomach what has happened to FR lately
I would expect that with what will be the an extremely important election coming up people would be doing more than whining about their hurt feelings because ‘BAD” Jeb Bush dared to criticize the state of the Republican party.
Even if he is wrong surely its a good thing that he can say what he wants.
Not here
Here its :
I hate Bush
I hate Rove
I hate Romney
I hate the elites
There is barely enough time to hate Obama.
Does anyone really care about this kind of stuff ?
I vaguely remember interesting debates in the past.
Or maybe it was my imagination.
The level of discourse now is pathetic.
And some of the left over old timers are the worst,
Tonight I had a guy from 1998 tell me the Bushes were Masons and therefore evil.
Wow! At least your mods cleaned up some of the nasty stuff he said to me
....but do you really think you need nuts like that around ?
Maybe they provide some flavor....I dont know
I’ve watched some good people leave over the years and its time for me to join them
I guess the world changes...things change
I see no point in discussing things at this mindless level anymore
Thanks for FR ......It meant a lot to me
Please remove me from active participation

Its the one thing that separates us from the rest of the world, is to say embrace our values, learn our language and work hard and dream big and create what you want to create because it helps all of us, Bush told Charlie Rose.
MILLIONS of illegals in this country have absolutely no interest in embracing our values or learning our language. If Jeb, or any Bush for that matter, really gave a damn about what we have to deal with in the Southwestern US, he would understand this basic fact.
You have to deal with this issue, you cant ignore it and so either a path to citizenship, which I would support and that does put me probably out of the mainstream of most conservatives or
a path to residency of some kind.
Call it whatever you want Jeb....it's amnesty. Amnesty has and will always fail, because it just encourages more illegal immigration. EITHER you are completely clueless about this basic fact, and thus are incompetent to serve in any position of influence in national politics, OR you are a closeted open borders advocate who has no respect for national sovereignty.
Jeb can talk all he wants. He's free to do that. His timing here is quite questionable though, and smells to high heaven of long term electioneering. Why now, after the nomination is Romney's? And why is it that Conservatives are too extreme, when in fact it's moderates like the Bushs who have helped democrats get the country into the deep hole that it's in?
Jeb can talk all he wants...but I just wish he'd be honest and call himself a democrat. Otherwise, STFU Jeb!

Bush, a much-discussed contender to be Mitt Romneys running mate, said he sees the ultra-conservative and partisan standards of todays GOP as disturbing, but called this dysfunction
temporary. Its just a different environment left and right, Bush said. Not much difference between slavery and freedom, eh John Ellis?

I really am sick of the Bushs. Especially this one. The party just nominated a Mass moderate and this dumb bast@rd is out there saying the party is too conservative. Brainless twit.

I see it here on FR and hear it on talk radio. There is a great divide in our country and it's dividing conservative groups. Fear of socialism sweeping our states and federal government has us drawing lines in the sand on each other. We need to unite or we will be swallowed individually by what we seek to defeat. We can fight our own little battles once the war is won.

I do not credit Jeb with knowing much of anything when it comes to our nation’s train ride to disaster. Jeb’s punching of the RINO ticket tells me he is living in the past, out of touch, and needs to find himself a cane and a rocking chair on the front porch.

Jeb Bush sounds like a Republican without any core principles. Reagan compromised with the Denocrats and the Democrats lied to him. Bush Compromised with Democrats and government grew. When did accomadating with democrats lead to government getting smaller?

This is quite the lame, back-handed attempt to equate Romney with Reagan.
The Bushes turned out to be two of the worst presidents on record, as far as Republicans go. Don’t dare compare yourselves to Reagan.
Makes me all sorts of sick, and a reason the GOP hasn’t gotten a dime out of me in years.

When will eating our own defeat Obama?
Sorry folks ... ANYBODY BUT OBAMA is how my card is punched

I liked George Sr, was disappointed when he let the Dims trick him into raising taxes.
Liked W. just fine.
For me, character is the deciding factor. If you want to run around unzipped, lying and stealing, forget it.
The Bushes seem to me of good character, unlike most of the Dims I have observed
