Have you ever seen a rusty pig?
It would probably smell real good when you’re shooting, but might tend to get rancid after awhile.

When you use regular old Breakfree CLP on a warm metal gun it does the same thing, infiltrate the microscopic metal pores, but it doesn't leave a nice minty smell. Having switched to all piston ARs now, I clean maybe every two thousand rounds or so. Hoppes #9 for the area of the carbon buildup around the piston, then heat parts to around 180 degrees and CLP it dripping, then wipe the excess off in a minute or two and good to go trouble free for another two or three thousand rounds.
I'm still evaluating the three major piston systems and I gotta say the CMMG system is a really fine dialable system. But for shear forget it functioning the Osprey Defense system is the best. There is something about the coating Osprey puts on that cup and piston that makes it stay clean by shooting the gun! I run Brown Bear, Tula, any steel case through it and send ten rounds of brass case IMI through it to finish the day, and I have zero failures so far. I'm gonna load my mags with the every tenth round a brass case next range trip and see if I notice anything.

I use Breakfree CLP and Hoppes #9, but I have never noticed it “seasoning” the metal.
I like Ezzox too.

I must admit I never applied CLP while the gun was hot.

Thats some of my favorite. You might try this one also.
Company is Lee KumKee. They make a lot of good stuff. We always keep a jar of this for...well, about everything.
