Since February this year alone (in just 4 months), a pretty impressive 75 million, Windows 7 units have been sold.

Windows 7s a big improvement over Windows Vista which was a disaster.
However some programs on XP don’t work on Windows 7 because it is 64 Bit OS vs a 32 bit OS.

A lot of enterprises are migrating from XP to 7, having taken a pass on the Vista garbage. Couple that with new sales to consumers and some consumer upgrade from Vista, and big numbers should be no surprise.

Unless, of course, you have the 32-bit version of Win7.

Not to worry. They will eff it up again when Windows 8 comes out.

I bought a laptop in late 2008 when they were putting Vista on in and it had endless problems.

This January I did the upgrade of it to Windows 7 and it works much better and most of the already installed applications still woork without being re-loaded.

I did find a problem where it no longer recognizes my Canon camera that I havent solved yet.

I have 32-bit & 64-bit programs running side-by-side in Win-7 Pro, with zero problems.

Windows XP still accounts for approximately 45 per cent of global market share.

I don't understand that, unless they're counting "users" as "market".

Nobody's selling XP anymore, are they?

I am a happy camper with 64-bit Windows 7 which can utilize all my 8gb of ram. Life is much easier now since I went to 8gb on my most used computer. Win7 puts to shame that Howdy Doody OS from Apple

I had the same problem with my 2006 Kodak DX3900, but after uninstalling all Kodak programs thru CP, switched USB cable port, and letting Win-7 ‘find’ it on a clean start, it recognized it and it works wo/ original CD software. Somehow, it found the camera’s dock and installed the right Easy-Share software version for that model. Don’t ask me how.

I am, through, having a terrible problem with my previously-reliable 2009 HP DeskJet D1660 Printer; the print spooler is burping and stalling 1/5th way thru print jobs. I can manually restart it, or ‘Troubleshoot’ fix it in CP Devices & Printers, but it’s a real pisser.

A lot of private resellers I know bought/stashed copies of XP-Pro and are still installing and selling new & refurb’d units w/ XP. I’d imagine that’ll continue w/ Win-7 Pro, when MS goes to the Win-8 crap/junk/trash.

I never really had any problems with Vista but Win7 was noticeably better. My laptop definitely runs faster, and my Core i7/12GB RAM/SSD desktop PC is REAL quick with Win7.

I’m not so sure about Win8; I don’t really have any need to change over for the sake of a new interface. I know there’s more than that, but I’m not sure what, yet.

How’bout a little Luciferian light through the Window onto the waxy skin of the Promethian Apple-cart?

Rev 9:20-21
...idols that cannot see or hear or walk. 21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.

As we have clearly disregarded Romans 1:20 in favor of human Craftsmanship — Is it Romans 1:21 yet, again?  Evidently so.

Alas poor Ozymandias, I knew him well.

I’m glad I went from XP to 7 and hopped over Vista. Heard lots of negative about it.

Yeah but, does it have a shiny “original” aluminum case with Steve Job’s “original” water mark (from the Gates-Jobs “original” pissing contest) on it, or at least a Xerox thereof?

About 6 months ago I helped a friend buy a refurbished Dell Optiplex on Ebay for only $137 shipped. Bought from a major refurb seller. Obviously an off lease from a business

  1. XP-Pro and included a disc!
  2. 2GB ram
  3. 160GB hard drive which is all he needs
  4. 3ghz Pentium single core
  5. He loves it and XP does great w 2GB ram

I'll be sticking with Windows 7.
A large reason Microsoft is going to Windows 8 is it will be very mobile friendly plus will copy Apple's look in this way..... Apple desktop/laptop OS is looking more and more like their mobile OS. More dumbed down and user friendly. Windows 8 will also be doing this. Look more like a mobile device OS

Thanks, dw. I’ve been doing just that since Feb, when I brought it home from my office machine.

I’ve installed/uninstalled/reinstalled both drivers, bios and chipset updates, Print-Scan Dr etc, done these sequential steps at least, 15-20x:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02205477&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3811075&tmp_track_link=ot_search

...and am still having the unending, maddening problem w/ spoolersvc.exe driver. I’ve *never* run into something as frustrating as this before.

I’m trying to figger out if I can uninstall spooler driver and install new one for Win-7, or whether that is fatal to OS. I found where some people on HP forum had done it thru DOS, but had problems trying to reinstall new spooler driver. I don’t want to mess-up entire OS for a simple driver problem, but this printer was a reliable workhorse, and even when I swapped HDs to go w/ prior office HD, it won’t work correctly, after many, many tries.

Big sigh...

I am running two computers with Win7 pro, and love them. Gotta say the one at work, which has a solid state drive is the fastest boot-up and usage computer I have ever had. 15 to 20 seconds from power switch to surfing the internet. Awesome. I am a big fan. I am trying the Win 8 Beta on an older 32 bit computer with a new SSD and it is like a brand new machine. It had been running XP and is almost 5 years old!
