So long as a significant portion of the American electorate uses TV commercials to guide who they are going to vote for - the one with the biggest ‘war chest’ is going to win around 80% of the time.
But there is a selection bias involved. When a candidate is less likely to win they are also less likely to attract campaign funds - investors want a return and a failed candidate is unlikely to provide it.
A candidate with everything going for them is more likely to attract campaign money - and more likely to win.
So why do so many wealthy people and businesses - who have proven that they know how to make some money into more money - “invest” so heavily in election campaigns?
It isn't for ideology - as often they give across both isles or give money to both sides of a race - it is because they expect (even DEMAND!) a return on their “investment”.
It seems that through crony capitalism (hat tip to Palin) they do get that return on investment - in spades.

"... That is not what our founders sacrificed their life, liberty and personal freedom for. This is something else. And nothing less is at stake in this debate than our democracy." That sounds a lot like inciting your weeping nutjobs to go shoot someone, Congresswoman Pelosi.
Wait, weren't you saying that the 'Tea Party' was using violence-based rhetoric like this not too long ago?
Oh, good God why am I even arguing with you, you crazy witch.

This is a government of the plutocracy, of the wealthy, or of the few oligarchy. That is not what our founders sacrificed their life, liberty and personal freedom for..."

She's right, but not in the way she believes.
It's actually amusing how the left always accuse others of what they themselves are doing.
She is the consummate oligarch herself and she is not happy when the peons are speaking out.

That is not what our founders sacrificed their life, liberty and personal freedom for. The Founding Fathers would be a lot more concerned about a Central Government that apparently feels no constraints on its purview.

You have to take the government back. YOU IDIOT, its your socialist democrat party thats in charge and which has been destroying this country with your inept leadership. Nancy, take a good long look into Wisconsin, if you dare. That is your party’s future and it will be coming to a theatre in November.
