“I can waste my vote on any obscure candidate. It will still be a vote for Obama.”

A vote for Goode would be a vote for Goode. It’s very simple to understand.

Some people vote “strategically” and others vote their conscience based on their values.

A vote is simply a way of voicing your opinion. There’s no wrong way to vote, my friend!

“Vote for Romney, then immediately start working for Walker 2016.”

Or don’t... then immediately start working for Walker 2016

“I hope you’re right. But what I fear is that what will really happen is that the Republican party survives, as the country-club party. And there will also be a strong conservative party.

In a three-way race, the non-lib vote will be split. The lib’s will therefore win it all.”

I understand your concerns, but I think Rush Limbaugh would agree that conservatism works EVERY TIME IT’S TRIED :)

“A vote for Goode is a vote for Obama.”

Do you use this expression because you think it’s an original point that none of us have heard before?

It’s time to retire it. A vote for Goode is a vote for Goode. If the RNC can’t field a conservative candidate, they can blame themselves for a loss.

“’The marriage with the GOPe is clearly over, so what exactly does clinging to that relationship accomplish?’

Excellent post, SiVA”

However, the issue is building a conservative party, a home for rounded conservatives who are both socially and fiscally conservative.

This makes a lot of sense, as does your argument that we need to put pressure on Romney to force him to the right. However, while a vote for Goode is a vote for Goode and for no one else, enough votes for Goode would split the opposition and cause Obama to win re-election by default. And while I certainly appreciate the idea that the lesser of two evils is still evil, the thought of a second Obama term, with no need to run for reelection, is truly frightening.

There are simply no easy solutions to this dilemma. As of right now I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm still hoping and praying for some sort of miracle to occur between now and the end of the Republican convention that will spare us the awful choice of Romney vs. Obama. I know I'm clutching at straws, but it's the best I can do right now.

As the descendant of Civil War Southern Unionists, I must admit that I hate to see the Republican party go. I truly wish we could make it ours. But I realize that reality is what it is, and if we need another party, we need to start working on it. At the same time, I'm almost allergic to the "Constitution Party" for several reasons. For one, it is all but a front for the John Birch Society (if which I was once a member), and is anti-Israel and almost Americo-Israel in its ideology (ie, the United States is the Chosen Nation, the Founding Fathers were divinely ordained prophets, and the Constitution is holy scripture, which is actually mormon doctrine as I understand it). For another, the Constitution Party is Jeffersonian and insists that only the Jeffersonian ("strict constructionist") interpretation of the Constitution is authentic and "orthodox." This is plainly and historically not so, as other Founding Fathers (including George Washington and John Adams as well as Alexander Hamilton) were Federalists who supported loose construction, implied powers, and federal supremacy. What I'm saying here is that the argument that the Jeffersonian interpretation of the Constitution is the Constitution is plainly and historically untrue and easily demolished. Both Hamiltonian and Jeffersonian interpretations have been with us from the very beginning and will both probably be with us so long as our country lasts.

Unless and until the CP can be de-Birched and de-Jeffersoned, I will not be able to support it. That doesn't mean, of course, that it can't be changed or that another party may rise that will suit our needs better.

Again, I'm simply flummoxed at present and don't know what I will do. I only know that I can't contribute to the re-election of Barack Obama in any way. But it's also true that I never wanted Romney (and can't figure out for the life of me who did or why), and I resent his seeking the office to begin with.

May G-d deliver us!
