If the GOP nominates a true conservative, they get the South tied up instantly, with perhaps the exception of Florida.
The fact that Romney is considering a VP from the south indicates that he is a very weak candidate, unable to lock up normally safe Republican territory. That this is also a bad economy with a President who is very unpopular in the South, and that Romney still can’t get the South behind him, is indicative of just how failed a candidate he is.
He’s John McCain with better hair and a worse record.

The evangelical vote is just not in the south. That is an old held myth. There is a large percentage that reside in the Midwest, such as Ohio, Iowa and Wisconsin, all important electoral states. I can’t see a single southern state, outside of Florida, voting for Obama no matter who he picks or doesn’t pick for VP
