"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Also in 1961 he said:
"But at the moment I'd like to talk about another way because this threat is with us and at the moment is more imminent. One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It's very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project. . . . Now, the American people, if you put it to them about socialized medicine and gave them a chance to choose, would unhesitatingly vote against it. We have an example of this. Under the Truman administration it was proposed that we have a compulsory health insurance program for all people in the United States, and, of course, the American people unhesitatingly rejected this."
Thanks. I really miss the BIG ideas that Reagan put in his speeches, which are sadly missing in our present-day political speeches. It is so bad out there that I have resorted to making up my own. Here is one of my better ones:
Liberals are driven by a fierce need to help.
Liberals believe that rich people do NOT need help.
Liberals believe that poor people DO need help.
So, the sooner the Liberals can make the rich people poor,
The sooner the Liberals can help them.
Here’s the thing...if you ponder upon it. While the Romans practiced this ‘crucify’ method of leadership...they were despised on almost every land they occupied (France, Germany, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, and Israel). The downward spiral of the Romans? Outside of Rome...they were viciously hated.
So this EPA guy goes through college and sits through some history class, and gets this one minor piece of history, and incorporates it into his management style? Roman “thug-ism”? And this is the best that the university can offer in it’s vast learning atmosphere? And this guy probably still owes $50k on student loans....where he picked this lousy knowledge that is worthless?
And from this point....does the guy earn some nickname like “Caesar”?
"America .... love it or heave it." What would this country be, without .... what was it? Omeprozal.
Roll, tide!
You are correct. There are more factors involved than just the motivation to help.
Another factor is ambivalence, that is holding two opposing emotions at the same time.
What I see is ambivalence on the part of the Counter Culture of The Left, (CCOTL).
In order to achieve their goals, the CCOTL MUST destroy all vestiges of resistance to what order that THEY want to impose on Society.
Their goal then would be to establish THEMSELVES as the sole authorities of Societal Mores, that must be obeyed without hesitation.
Hence, the ambivalence: they HATE the present system of order, that allows for freedom of speech, and at the same time LOVE their system of order which will deny freedom of speech.
All of us went through this phase of ambivalence as we left the nest. It is just part of changing from a child to an adult. It is a juvenile way of looking at the World.
The CCOTL are still holding onto their juvenile security blankets of ambivalence, and few among them have the courage to discard the contradictory values of the CCOTL and join in supporting the fundamental values of this Republic.
The OWS are the obvious Brown Shirts of the CCOTL, but their leaders are the Democrats in Congress and the White House. Currently the base voter support for this ideology of the Counter Culture Of The Left is above 40 %, according to current opinion polls.
The RINO Political Party hasn’t got a chance, as they are now currently bowing to a mere Reid in the wind - - - - .
The pendulum is swinging,
Which way will it go?
To the Left a little more,
Or will todays voters say NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
