Santorum or Romney can’t win and they are both unacceptable to me. I wouldn’t have said that about Santorum a few months ago but he keeps putting his foot in his mouth. I’ll stand with the one who could actually lead the nation and make a good President.
The accsation that if we’re not for your guy we’re for Romney, If your guy was also a FISCAL CONSERVATIVE and could keep his foot out of his mouth he could possibly attract some of us. WHY would a rational person make that choice between Romney and Santorum as long as Newt is in the race, as a Social Conservative I would think you would recognize that there are some things worth praying for and worth to much to give up on.
Wow,Mitt sure loved that one—and what good did it do Newt?
I rest my case.
Peace FRiend;)
Your case would be that Santorum could win, unless you yourself are either for Romney or obama, hard to figure out which, santorum would be easy pickings for obama and you’re working awfully hard to get Newt out of the race. If you’re really for Santorum you could talk to him about his foot in mouth disease and that many of us Social Conservatives are also Fiscal Conservatives. Can you explain his quote?

Well, maybe he will become president of Georgia.
Good for Newt!!!!!
June, July and August should be loads of fun.
This has got to be really pi$$ing Romney off... and I love it.
As for Saintorum, well, he has yet again documented his “true conservative” metal , as well as his commanding knowledge of the constitution and the rule of law. LMAO

Go Newt Go....
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
“Well, maybe he will become president of Georgia.”
Well, maybe Saintorum will become president of Pennsylvania.... no wait, the voters had already tossed him once. LMAO
And you and Santorum working hard to re-elect obama. Have you figured out what Santorum is saying in that quote yet?
Mathematically it doesn't work out that way. Polling across various states shows without Newt, Santorum gets no more than 57% of Newt's share. In some states, Mitt getting 4 or 5 out of 10 Newt voters lets him will top 50% total which can mean he captures all delegates from the state.
Newt's exit actually accelerates Romney's path to the nomination.
Examining polling data and six upcoming states, Santorum can only be advantaged with Newt leaving if he can get within 2% of Romney now on his own (with Newt still in) and he outperforms the two-man best polling with 6 out of 10 Newt voters every time.
Boom goes the dynamite.
Shout out to warrior VinL!
It's not so much Newt has given Santorum his ideas, Santorum has more or less stolen them, and there are times when his speeches include more of Newt's ideas, quotes and policies than Santorum's speechwriters. It's really sad to see the so-called good Christian candidate act in such a blatant political, cynical way, especially when Santorum has said his ideas and principles are written on his heart... this is gagsville bigtime.
Bob Beckel on the Five said today that he and Newt had a long ride into the city on the train this morning, and a very long and interesting talk. And Beckel offered one tidbit that he seemed impressed by - that Newt told him that by him and Rick staying in through the convention Obama doesn't who to prepare for, and they are essentially keeping him tied up; whereas Rick's, Romney's and Newt's campaigns can start their fall strategy and ad-making right now, since they know who their opponent will be. According to Newt, we need to keep doing what we're doing until June 26th, circle that date on your calendars!
Major shout out to MAJOR Warriors Trapped and VinL. :)
Im not knocking Newt. Its his choice. But it does seem odd that he doesnt envision coming back at least into second place in the race, but still continues on.
Id much rather see Ron Paul drop out. But theres no chance that he will, judging from his past behavior.
You're not seeing this clearly. If there is a pool, outside of romney committeds, of conservative and quasiconservative voters, call them nonromneys, to some degree or the other. Some of them will go to santorum as the socon, and some will go to Newt as a strongly proven conservative.
Polling has shown that if Newt or Santorum weren't in, in other words, if one of the "conservatives" dropped out, not all of their votes go to the remaining "conservative" singularly - approximately 50% of that pool would go to the only conservative remaining, and the other 50% to romney. So by staying in, Newt is robbing Romney of 25% of the delegates he would have gotten if only one conservative was in the race. Don't know if I explained it well enough, but that is the quantitative picture of what is going on if Newt stays in or if there are two anti-romneys.
Actually, I think it illustrates Sarah's concerns that value voters are not really thinking clearly or big picture, and that they are choosing the wrong candidate to bring to the general. And the fact she did jump in for Newt means that she realizes that religious zeal, especially in the South, is the card Santorum is playing, and it won't pack much wallop elsewhere.
I think Sarah understands, like alot of Newt supporters everywhere, that it is very difficult, if not impossible to dissuade those captured by religious or ethnic zeal -- exactly like what happened in 2008 with the dems.
The above, and I think he knows a major push is going to come forth in the coming weeks from the republican establishment and some, if not all, of the conservative media. He doesn't know that Rick will withstand that all, especially if they promise him if he does right by romney, next time it will be his turn... he will take one for the team again.
Newt, the bastard, won't give in and can't be bought. he already knows most of the party hates him. This is a man on a mission...

RE "This has got to be really pi$$ing Romney off..."
think beyond Romney, the Gop-e must be having hourly hissy fits... this was supposed to be all over and done by now. Their boy was supposed to be in, and all that was left was the coronation in Tampa. And then the rabble got roused, and their candidate isn't buying the election as easily as they thought he would... all in all, they are having many many really crummy days in a row...
I'm not really sure what you're talking about, "not serious"... I thought Newt provided a lot of historical perspective, facts and figures, and a baseball analogy that was very apt.
Either way, he's headed for Tampa. Time the Establishment GOP realized they can't take the base for granted...
He came in with classtoo bad he has decided not to go out the same way.
Now all he is doing is giving Mitt's people an excuse to bash Santorum while claiming to be his people.
You don't have to have a great imagination to visualize what romney would do to santorum to finally get him out of the way. He would simply decide to assassinate him as he did Newt in Florida.
What I have heard, maybe you have also, is that romney's vaunted campaign staff is flummoxed right now - they thought newt was dead and gone, and they are not sure who they should eliminate immediately, and who they should have a last stand with... of course, they believe they have but to decide and can accomplish their goal, when it's really more like pressing on a soft balloon...
Oh, and just to disagree with you a little, I really can't fathom any political circumstance where Newton Leroy is insignificant...
