Well written. Obama had an opportunity to lead, to reinforce America’s values and be a uniter around them. He failed that test.

It looks like it’s pretty cold, wet and windy there. I don’t think that someone who is wearing a hoodie in hoodie weather would appear to be trying to hide his face, anymore than someone wearing a ski-mask while skiing would be suspected of just having robbed a liquor store.

Act like an honest man with open and peaceful intentions instead of gangster. Makes sense to me.

“We do not need Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton or the President of the United States spouting off before the trial has even begun. “

Agreed, but he should have included another big mouth that’s trying to take political advantage from this tragedy, Rick Saintorum.

Me, too. Let’s hear something in defense of hoodies...they’re not just for hoods! I’m in my 70’s, white, female and in the winter I live in hoodies. I usually buy them in the men’s department, because they hang much longer than the women’s sizes, all one color. I even have a gray one that is ultra feminine, besequined and beribboned from a high end store and I think it’s quite pretty and I have gone shopping in nice stores wearing it. However, I don’t wear pants showing “butt cleavage” (for which everyone should be much thankful)and in appearance I am as far removed from a “gangsta” as you can get.

many, many people wear hooded sweatshirts

I wear hooded sweatshirts, too. But I would never wear a hoodie. I give my nieces holy heck when I hear them use that word. Why? Just because.

Not all hoodies are the same. The bigger the hoods are, the more “gangsta” they tend to look....and the gangstas and wannabes tend to wear them in any kind of weather.

Basically, what Geraldo said was, if you dress like a thug people may mistake you for a thug. And he was right. Now, if you want your kid to take the risk, it’s your business, but I’m not sure why you would want to. Fashion be damned, it’s not that important. In fact, fashion is a pretty stupid reason to get killed, I think. Of course, there are other reasons I wouldn’t want my kids not to look like the anti-social group who dresses that way. Kids tend to identify with the people they dress like. Why would you want that either?

Dave Chappelle used to have a segment on his show called, “When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong.” I think this may apply here.

why would anyone wear a hoodie IN THE FL HEAT?

The police called it prowling when I was a kid.

What Geraldo and Thomas are saying is that your choice of attire can lead people to have a wrong/bad impression of you. Although many will claim this is “un-fair,” contrary to what the liberals want you to believe, LIFE IS NOT FAIR - and no amount of social justice is going to correct this FACT!

MANY of the 7-11’s and local corner marts in Irving and Arlington (both cities between Dallas and Fort Worth) have signs that specifically state that you CANNOT wear your hood inside the store. Why? Because people steal things and use the hoodie to hide their faces from the cameras. So, while it is unfair to those who just wish to wear their hoodie, it is equally unfair (if not MORE so) to the the store owner who cannot stop repeat theft and may ultimately looses his store do to unrecoverable loses.

I told my kids, it isn’t fair, but teachers will judge you by the company you keep, until you proof them otherwise. Sorry, but that is a FACT, and you are not going to change it! So, either don’t hang out with the losers and malcontents or be extremely exceptional in your class work. Luckily my kids did not really want to hang with that crowd AND they had exceptional class work. I told them you are not going to change human nature, so you must work with the system to delineate yourself!

...why would anyone wear a hoodie IN THE FL HEAT?

The main reason to wear a hoodie when it's hot in Florida is to conceal a face from security cameras. When it's cooler, it can be a fashion statement..

It's been in the high 70's - low 80's for over a month.

Now I’ve got inlaws and outlaws but none quite like her. She looks like she’s been rehabilitated, or something. ;-)

Simple rule.

If you don’t want to be eaten, don’t look like food. Same goes for dressing like a slut and going drinking alone. Or wearing the wrong “color” in the wrong area.

Be aware. DON’T FEED THE ANIMALS!
