This thread has just added to the
FreeRepublic "bang list" (firearms interest list) by adding the keyword "banglist".
Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it. Just a suggestion.

As I learned, the police who staff the office and are tasked with explaining the gun laws to residents just invent laws that dont exist. Sounds like an 18USC240 action is appropriate here. Get their names and sue them until they're dead broke, starving, and in the streets.

It's a sad sign of the times, that the Capitol of what is arguably the freest nation on Earth is probably the least free area in the country.
 Tells you things.

I don’t get it. Where is the danger/problem in owning ammo if you don’t have the gun to shoot it? I own saw blades but I’ve thrown out my saw years ago. Do I go to jail? This is crazy!!!!

It’s a good thing D.C. has such strict laws. Otherwise, there might be violent crime there.

I couldn't live there. I have no idea how many rounds I have, or where they all are, exactly (there is some organization, but just for a few thousands rounds that I keep handy). I have boxes of ammo for rifles that I don't remember details of owning, including that weird Swedish caliber I recently found.
I have bricks of .22LR in use as bookends.
I check my pockets for .22LR before I wash clothes.
How do you get by with a 'box' of ammo?
DC is fornicated.

It is also unlawful to have ammo that is not in the same caliber or gauge as your legal gun. So when you sell a gun (and the gun shop refuses to even take your ammo as a gift) what are you supposed to with it? Wrap it in a box and leave it on the steps of the nearest fire station?

Can't have any armed patriots marching on DC doncha know! That would make them felons as soon as they crossed the city limits. Convenient!

I guess that the 8 rounds of 50 cal in a belt that I have lying around would be a problem; I don't have an M2 so that's probably a couple of years in the slammer.
The 20mm AP rounds were lost in an unfortunate boating accident years ago....

It’s quite sobering to contemplate on the fact that doing something that is commonplace in most parts of the country could have you ending up in prison in other parts. I can’t even imagine what it feels like to live in such represive anti constitutional places such as DC, Chigago, NJ or Mass.
Like others here, I have dozens of different caliber ammuntion in varying quantities. To think that I could serve a prison sentence equal to a murderer or child molester for something as mundane as having a can opener in the kitchen drawer is mind boggling to say the least.
