If the leadership of the GOP happens to see this, perhaps they will do something to counter the plan.
One caution: At the elite levels of the media, reporters, both Republican and Democrat, have social relations with people on both sides of the political fence in the White House and Congress. While George Stephanopoulos’ partisan affiliations lead to obvious and legitimate questions, it's just as possible that someone in the White House just happened to suggest that this would be a good question for him to focus on. Given the fact that Stephanopoulos’ family includes a very conservative nun and he has personal ties to religiously conservative people in the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions, he would be the logical person to whom the White House might have wanted to suggest this question.
Also, the contraception issue has been percolating in left-wing publications for some time as a complaint about Rick Santorum, and it's even showed up on Free Republic. Initially I didn't understand that line of complaint — after all, what's wrong from a liberal perspective with saying women have a right to do what they want with their own bodies, including having lots of kids? — but logic doesn't always apply in politics.
Great post and great thread (read every reply). Thanks Laz, and thanks to every poster. Interesting coordination by the vast leftwing conspiracy to place and explode time-delay, remote-controlled fireworks for all of their allies in their base collectives and the philosophically challenged in ours. Oooh, ahhh! Optics of totalitarians, amplification by totalitarians, results for totalitarians.
Life, liberty and the pursuit and destruction of totalitarians.
DEFUND their collectives, DISMANTLE their bureaucracies, DESTROY their mandates.
