It's the right thing to do.
tired and broke from doing what?
handing all the psuedoconservatives in the party a strawman victory and likely helping reelect Obama?
Were the roles reversed I would be urging Newt to drop out
We must stop Romney
LOL. Santorum wins the debate, and so the media trashes him with “tired and broke” the next morning. He sure didn’t look tired last night.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rick get a small boost in the polls after last night.
Although it would be meaningless in the greater scheme, it would be enough to pump his ego and keep him hanging on through the Florida primary and perhaps another state or two.
This story is bogus. He’s going home to get his taxes to release them. He’s coming right back. Santorum is the best, most homest, candidate standing.
Going home to get his taxes? I guess he doesn’t know how to have his wife email a pdf file? I do not believe he is going home to get his taxes. I wasn’t born in a pumpkin patch Rick. What is really going on?
I’m predicting, without reading the posts, a consensus that Rick Santorum should ‘do the right thing’ and get out.
I don’t agree with that.
Newt gained popularity here largely on the theory that he was a fighter and could beat Obama.
He needs to show that by upping his game, not getting distracted by personal attacks, and beating Romney, Santorum and Ron Paul.
This whining for everybody to drop out is unbecoming and shows little faith in our candidate.
That being said, I expect Santorum to drop out unless he gets a huge surge in Florida, but before he goes, I want to thank him for lending some dignity to the debate last night.
Rick didn’t look tired last night when he stuck it to Romney.
Absolutely not.
Rick had a great debate performance last night. And I am not the only one saying that.
Newt is about to crash in flames -- again. Mark my words, you will see.
Newt is the Rasputin of American politics. To some, he is mesmerizing and "charismatic." He definitely has some talents, particularly in finding a way to manipulate crowds. But he has no personal ethics, and no philosophical core. What Newt is about is seeking power and glory for himself, by whatever means necessary.
Like Raputin, Newt keeps rising from the dead, again and again. But one day he is finally going to sink for good.
Who will be left to be the "anti-Romney" then? Santorum, god willing.
Rick, get back out there after your break! A lot of us are sending $ today. You did well last night. Everyone’s talking about you. Some just noticed you! Keep above the fray.
Can I call you “Joe the Pimp” for short?
WHERE is the DRUDGE STORY?!!!!
Santorum goes HOME and not a peep from Drudge.
not a peep from FNC,
not a peep from Public Radio
Not a peep from CNBC (allegedly the money business channell)
Not a peep from CNN etc. etc.
This would shift FL.
With last night’s weak Newt performance versus Santorums’s strength, albeit enabled by his non-involvement in the Newt/Mitt match, I think that it is helpful that Santorum stay in the fray for awhile. Santorum took on Romney strongly, which is more than Newt seems to be capable of. Were it not for winner-take-all states, I would have no reservation about Santorum staying in for the duration. But the loss of Florida’s fifty delegates is not too significant. The concern is stopping Mitt’s momentum. If Newt and Santorum, together, aggregate considerably more than Mitt, that should take some shine off Mitt’s Florida apple. Meanwhile, it is very helpful to have Santorum in there hitting Mitt at every available opportunity. This is in line with Gov. Palin’s comment that she wants the race to stay open as long as possible. Where this all goes in the long run, I have no clear sense, but Santorum can buy us some time.
