These are not normal times. This is not unlike the dissolution of the Soviet Union, with regard to popular disaffection towards the ‘powers that be’.

How much does the fact that Romney is from New England and Newt from Georgia play into the vote?

While I would not vote for Romney in an circumstance, voting for a Mormon would bother me less than voting for anyone from New England unless he was the second coming of Reagan. And even then, I would be suspicious of anyone who didn’t leave there.
