“”He’s the only President in my time, that brings tears to my eyes when I see pictures of him.””

I feel like crying every time I see obozo the clown...If we see a rerun of him in 2013, I really will cry!!!

That is not a monument to an American Hero. It is a monument to a post-modern architect.

Yes, a lot of the brass thought the Airborne were going on a suicide mission which was nevertheless necessary to the operation.

They didn't know just how tough those bastards would prove to be!

I got it!

It's not just Republicans who suffer from ego-driven designers. The Franklin Roosevelt memorial is awful too. I guarantee you the American people did not picture their wartime leader as a man sitting alone in his makeshift wheelchair.

It is almost impossible to comprehend the skill that Eisenhower brought tasks of Supreme Commander, Allied Forces Europe and the job of President.

The eight years of peace and prosperity were no accident. Patton or Monty would have failed if given his job, or at least not performed so superbly.

To place his memory in the hands of a hack like Gehry is the nearest thing in secular life to sacrilege.

They ought to stop with the dumb pillars and gimmickry and go with a simple statue of president Eisenhower. That way, tourists will still have a place to throw a frisbee.

I stand corrected. I have no idea how I got the wrong idea in my head. My uncle was with the 82nd at that time - if he were still alive I guess I'd be getting court-martialed.

Ike may of been a great general but he left running this country to Nixon and Nixon and his cronies were running the CIA.

Oh not I’m not. Just like all the enlightened progressive people I can see that the emperor does have clothes.

I could not agree more with you on that point! Because he hated that tree, he would not agree, I think.

In 1959 while stationed at Ft. Gordon I was TDY attached to a Major William H. Howell (retired as Lt. Colonel). He was then Chief Helicopter Pilot for Pres. Eisenhower. I and two other soldiers were to chauffeur him and his officers around Augusta and the base for 3 weeks.
On Major Howell’s trial sorties to familiarize him with the area we flew from Bush Field to Ft. Gordon , another public airfield then to Augusta National, where he set down on the edge of the putting green in front of Mamie’s Cabin/cottage.
Because the exhaust on the H-34 was next to the side door(right) the Major told me Mamie hated the plane because of the noise. Later they updated the interiors and planes.
It was one of the best times of my Army enlistment. It is where I found out “Rank has Privileges!”.

Heh, no doubt. And I'll bet the designer was forced to include the statue of the little boy. Probably killed him to have something people could relate to in his masturpiece (sp. intentional).

Ike should be remembered for his historic day. D-Day. And the fall of Germany

Don't forget his greatest accomplishment as President: Operation Wetback - deporting 1.3 million illegal aliens in less than a year...showing us how we CAN conduct mass deportations.

Wow. I thought you might be lying, until I saw the picture. You didn’t adequately describe the ugly.

Hard to overstate it, no?

Seriously, after Seattle, you’d think that there is no possible way this guy gets another gig.

Paul Allen paid cash money for it though. Ultimately his fault - money can’t buy taste.

I don’t mind the monstosity at the Seattle Center because it’s not depicting the accomplishments of a hero.

So the Eisenhower Memorial is a screen in front of the Lyndon Johnson building?

Interesting. Is there some symbolism in that?

This is actually pretty old-fashioned for Gehry. The completed monument may look like it isn't finished, but at least it doesn't look like it's been torn down, like some of his other buildings.
