IF Romney is the GOP nominee...I will no longer consider myself a republican. Have never voted for a democrat in my life and never will but imo Romney and Obama are too close in their platforms. NO ROMNEY

Romney has been vetted by the press since 2007.
To: GOP_Harley_Guy
That isn’t so, how do you think that Mitt Romney has been attacked (the word for vetting of Republicans) since 2007, or ever?

Backstabber, and Palin hater, Romney WAS NEVER vetted.
Mr. RomneyCARE is not EVEN eligible.

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"
"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"
"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"
Poor sport spoiler Romney doing what he does best:
Novak: "Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign"
Said Novak: "The rumors were traced in part to Mitt Romney's campaign,
trying to stir up strife between McCain and Thompson."
"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Mitt Romney, Carpetbagger UT,CA,MA,NH,Mexico) lost Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

Posting this article is not an endorsement of Romney on my part, far from it. I still won't support him in the Republican primary. I'm merely reporting a development which will no doubt influence the Republican establishment. Can't be too careful these days.

In reality, January 1 polls don't matter except in Iowa. McCain led Obama at one point too. If the polls are accurate, it shows the opinions of the country as of the polling date. The polling date part is what people always forget.
In perception, this helps with the establishment and pundits. They think Romney is the "electable" one due to polls, money, style, and organization. Most I know who support him are due to their beliefs that he can "beat Obama". I don't think he can unless Obama helps matters himself.

As far as I know, Rasmussen does real polls, not Internet surveys à la Zogby. And I wouldn’t say that Rasmussen polls “lean Republican”: they use likely voters, and reasonable party splits.

I hope that isn’t the case. In any event, it’s still very early.
