Adding another rotor to the old Enigma machine.

Seoul has been providing the North with telecommunication equipment including optical cables to help the impoverished communist country improve its communication networks. Idiots. Another technology transfer, just like Clinton in the '90s.

Futile.
They will be cracked.
Take it to the bank.
Pathetic.

Not quite... the South Koreans probably included trapdoors.

Modern computers would cut through the enigma machine like a hot knife through butter. Apparently this was nothing more subtle than listening in on unencrypted channels. The U.S. used to monitor Soviet microwave telemetry with satellites that the Soviets didn’t know existed. At the time encryption was expensive. They believed the channels were secure because they didn’t believe the transmitters could be observed by the U.S. They never considered the third dimension.
Whoever blabbed about the North Korean communications (assuming this isn’t all South Korean disinformation) should be shot.

One of Sec. of State Henry L Stimson's stupider acts was associated with that 1929 quote.
He redeemed himself as Sec. of War in WW-II.
By the way most ASA, NSG, AFSS guys would seriously object to being defamed as "gentlemen."

No, it wasn't sarcasm. It was a historical quote.

I understand it was a quote, the real question is whether the poster really supports that and used the quote out of sarcasm.

Ax is one of us, he was poking fun at the silly concept, which I suppose is a form of sarcasm.

ASA Vet is quite right. It was dripping with sarcasm. Idiot Stimson was trying to introduce the practice of fighting the enemy with one hand tied behind our back. Even Caesar was aware that his enemies were reading his mail when he introduced cryptography to protect his comms with his higher HQS.

We may not always have comported ourselves as “gentlemen” whilst strutting our stuff on the streets of certain villages in Japan, Germany, The PI, Korea or Italy. But you can bet when we got home and if our mothers found out how badly we behaved, we’d get thumped for our candor.

Old Crow Ping Please let me know if you want on or off the Old Crow ping list.
It won't help the NKs. At most it will mean a slight delay. If they truly think that it will help, all the better for us.
Merry Christmas, y'all.
